Senior iPad Return

• Seniors may turn in iPads to the library any time in the following window.

May 10-17th 8 AM -3 PM

• Please bring the iPad, the cord and the cover.• Battery level needs to be between 40-70%• Unreturned iPads could result in fees that could prevent getting your transcript

• Save Google Docs, etc., by emailing them to yourself.

Senior Check Out

● Senior check out forms will be given to seniors on Monday, May 16 during SSR. It is very important to attend regardless of your normal school schedule.

● All books and Ipads must be returned, fees paid, survey completed, and teacher signatures acquired.

● You will not receive a cap or gown until the checkout form is complete and verified with Andi Felton in the main office.

● All forms will be due on Friday, May 20.

Senior Awards Night

• Tuesday, May 24th @ 7:00PM in the Auditorium.

• Our school is interested in adding a digital copy of the senior’s baby picture to the Senior Slide Show.

• The digital submission is due by May 1st via email. The address and instructions for doing this are on a flyer that can be picked up when you leave tonight.

Important Information

● Please note that NO Cap or Gown will be distributed if students have any outstanding fines and/or fees. Fines and/or fees must be paid by Wednesday, May 18th.

● Graduation caps and gowns will be distributed directly after Graduation rehearsal on May 25.

● No coats, purses, cell phones, etc. at Senior Awards Night on May 24 or during the Graduation Ceremony on May 28.

● Students should arrive no later than 10:30 AM at MHS for the Graduation ceremony. The Graduation ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00AM. Late student arrivals will not be admitted to the ceremony.

● It may be warm at Graduation. Guests need to bring water and sunscreen.

Important Information Continued

● Limited handicap seating will be available. Contact Rachael Ayers (Administrator) by May 23, 2016 to arrange for this seating.

● Parents and students, we ask that no air horns, beach balls, noisemakers, cowbells, whistles, etc., during the Graduation ceremony.

● All non-graduates: Please observe the chorded graduation area and remain outside it during the ceremony.

● The Senior Awards Night and the Graduation Ceremony are formal events and appropriate dress is expected.

Important Information Continued

● During the ceremony, students will be handed only the black diploma cover.● Actual diplomas (document) will be handed out in the Large Gym for 30

minutes following the ceremony.● If you miss this window, pick up your diploma in the MHS office during

normal business hours. ● Mead High School graduates are asked not return to the high school during

normal school hours without prior approval from MHS Administration.

Parking at Graduation

• Handicap Parking will be available in the lot on the East side of Mead High School adjacent to the football field.

• There will be buses running from Mead Middle School and Mead Elementary School to alleviate parking at Mead High School.

Inclement Weather Grad Location

• If moved, Graduation will be held in the Mead High School Large Gymnasium.

• VERY IMPORTANT !!!!• Each graduate will receive ONLY four tickets for an indoor

ceremony. • Due to limited space, all attendees must have a ticket for

admittance to the gym.

• Overflow viewing will be available to those without tickets in the Auditorium using closed circuit television.

Inclement Weather Communication

● The decision to move graduation indoors will be determined by the principal and posted online on the MHS website by 6:00 am.

● The Infinite Campus phone messaging system will be used to communicate information about any changes. If your phone has a block on it, you will not receive the automated call.

● Please make sure your phone number is correct in our database.

Tradition and Participation

• High School Commencement is the culminating experience of a student’s K-12 education.

• The graduation ceremony is optional. • Participation implies that you accept the standards set for

behavior, appearance, and general decorum related to this particular activity.

• Any deviation from these standards may cause you to be denied participation in the graduation activities.

Graduation Caps

• All caps and gowns are black.

• The caps are delivered in a plastic bag along with the gown and tassel.

• Caps should be placed on the head so that the mortarboard is level, with the long point of the crown to the back. Do not tilt the cap backward or forward.

• The top surface of the cap may be decorated, but it must be flush with the surface of the cap.

Caps Continued

• Caps will be checked in the graduation staging area (large gym) prior to the ceremony. Inappropriate caps will be removed and replaced with a plain black cap.

• Male graduates are asked to remove their caps as a sign of respect during the National Anthem.

Tassels

• The tassels are burnt orange and black.

• The tassel is initially worn over the right temple.

• Do NOT pin or sew Tassels.

• After the closing remarks, students will be instructed to move their tassels from the right side to the left side of their caps.

Gowns

• Graduation gowns are black.

• Gowns will be delivered, folded up in a plastic bag along with the cap and tassel.

• Wrinkles and creases in the gowns may be steamed. We recommend NOT using an iron, as they burn easily.

• Gowns should not be decorated or altered for any reason.

What to wear under the gown

● Students should dress appropriately for this formal, dignified event.• skirts• dress pants• dress shirts• appropriate shoes

● T-shirts, shorts, and casual footwear (flip-flops and slippers) are inappropriate attire for graduates.

● Students dressed inappropriately may be denied the opportunity to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Honor Cords, Tassels and Sashes

• The Valedictorian and Salutatorian medals and sashes will be presented on Awards’ Night and will be worn during the Graduation ceremony.

• Cords distributed to qualified students during the cap/gown distribution. • NHS – awarded a gold cord• HONOR GRADS (4.0 or above) – awarded a white cord• ENERGY ACADEMY GRADS – awarded a green cord

District Approval

Only district approved caps, gowns and cords may be worn at the Graduation ceremony. Cords may

not be shared.

Photography / Pictures

• Studio5 School Portraits has been selected as Mead High School’s official photographer for the 2016 graduation ceremony. After graduation, you may order pictures online at www.studio5schoolportraits.com.

• Proofs will be available within a few days after the ceremony from which you can order quality photo enlargements.

Please note: As the graduation photographer, Studio5 is responsible for the quality of the graduation photographs.

Counseling Department - Graduation

● All graduation requirements must be satisfied prior to May 18th in order to participate in the Mead HS Graduation Ceremony on May 28th. FINISH STRONG!

● Students taking correspondence courses, such as BYU Independent Study, must complete all coursework and have requested a final exam by May 1st. All BYU transcripts must be received by Mead HS by May 18th.

● Students needing to complete their graduation requirements beyond May 18th will not participate in graduation. Once they’ve completed graduation requirements a diploma will be ordered and issued to the student.

Counseling Department - Transcripts

● Colleges and Universities will require an “official” final high school transcript, even if you have already been accepted.

● Students will indicate on their Senior Checkout form where they want their final “official” high school transcript to be sent.

● There is no charge for the 1st copy of your “official” final transcript.

● Each official transcript requested after graduation will be charged a $2.00 transcript fee.

Counseling Department - Scholarships & Awards

● There are still scholarships available! Check Naviance for the latest list of scholarship opportunities (Mead Education Foundation and Boosters Club).

● Each student who is the recipient of any scholarship dollars should let the Counseling Office know by May 6, 2016 by completing the Senior Awards Verification Form.

● These students will be recognized in the program at Senior Awards Night and Graduation ONLY IF the counseling office is notified.

● The Mead High School Senior Survey is a required as part of the Senior Checkout Process. Survey will be available on May 6th.
