IS CELEBRATING THEIR BIRTHDAY DURING THE MONTH OF

APRIL 2015

Visitation News MaryLou Hofmann’s name was drawn for the visitation pot. Unfortunately, although she was at the dance, she had not attended a visitation and she did not win. The visitation pot now has $40 in it. It’s getting up there now, so plan on attending a visitation in April!

The 55th California State Square Dance Convention is being held just down the I-15 on April 17, 18 & 19 in San Diego. A full weekend of dancing to great callers like Bronc Wise, Deborah Carroll-Jones, Mike Kellogg, Ken Ritucci and cuers Rey & Sherry Garza, Phil & Sue Harris. The excitement of being with so many other dancers is indescribable, I hope that many of you will be able to make it down to San Diego.

Cowtown Singles Class Dance on March 22 had the following joining the fun: Bob & Carole Stoops, Al & Carol Pitchard, Earlean Wagner, Joy & Jerry Samaras, Rick Jones, Ron Morris, Cliff Wallace, Lisa Evans, Andy Young & Marilyn Taylor, Anna Gorhman, Anita Peterson & Sue & Randy Gibson

The following Twirlers went to the CCHA Club Appreciation Dance on March 29: Bob & Carole Stoops, Suzie King, Earlean Wagner, Dale Houser, Joy & Jerry Samaras

HELP WANTED: The Twirler Board has a vacancy and two new positions that they are looking for volunteers to fill.

If you are creative and can use the computer, we are looking for you. We need someone to occasionally make flyers and announcements to advertise Twirler dances and other special events. These flyers are sent to other Clubs to let them know what’s happening at our Club and hopefully encourage them to attend. You can work from home. You don’t have to attend Board meetings and you would really be helping the Club. If this sounds like something you would like to do, contact Jackie.

We are also looking for a Social Director to plan and organize social events for Twirler Club and Class members. These events would be a chance to get together socially and have fun. The event could be as simple as a bar-b-que at a park or as formal as a play. If this sounds like something you’d like to do, contact Jackie or another Board member.

Say a prayer for our friends that have not been well lately, give them a call, send a card or email to let them know you care.

Please keep Frank & Linda Bezzina in your thoughts and prayers. Frank has terminal advanced cancer; please pray for his comfort during this time he has left.

Helen Shepherd continues her recovery from back surgery.

Karin Sanchez is struggling with back pain and may be having surgery soon.

Bob Jardine recently passed away, our condolences

to Janet and family.

Please contact Karin Sanchez at 951-301-5878 or [email protected] if you know of a club member that needs some Sunshine spread their way!

Prez's Message

A BIG thank you to DeeDee Warden for her hard work organizing the silent auction at our March dance. Also a BIG thank you to everyone who donated items. Proceeds from the auction netted the Club $122.85.

Our next fundraiser will be an “experienced clothing” sale at our June dance. Our fantastic twins, Reagan and Riley Hart, have offered to organize the sale and are looking for volunteers to help them. If you are interested in helping, contact them or a Board member.

On Sunday, March 15th, 14 Twirlers and friends enjoyed a wonderful concert of songs from Movies and Broadway shows at the Canyon Lake Lodge. After the show, a group went to Carnitas Express on Newport Road for dinner. A wonderful time was had by all. A round of applause to Vi Henderson who organized the very wonderful Event. Look forward to the next Club Event— Coming in June a Sunday afternoon of Bunco, Cards and Food. Watch for details.

TWIRLER BOARD ELECTIONS—Election of the 2015-16 Twirler Board will be in June. At the present time we have an opening for a Vice President. The Vice President, with the Class Managers, is in charge of the class. He or She also makes the announcements and takes over if the Presidents are gone. If this seems like something you would like to do, or just find out more about the position, talk to Jackie or Sue.

See you in a square!

Jackie & Bill and Sue & Randy

PULL-TABS: Keep saving those pull-tabs and getting them to our Treasurer. We already have quite a few and we will be collecting them until the last week of April. Keep ‘em coming!

DONATING FOR FOOD: “How much should I donate for food at our dances?” is a question our Treasurers often hear. Since the Canyon lake POA has allowed us to purchase food from the restaurant for our dances instead of paying to use the Lodge, we are asking our Club members to donate $5.00 per person to help defray the costs for the food. If this seems like a lot of money, consider how much you were paying when we were allowed to bring finger foods. Not only was there the cost of the food but the time you spent in buying and preparing it. When you think about it, $5 per person isn’t really that much.

TWIRLER BOARD ELECTIONS: WE NEED YOU!

Election of the 2015-16 Twirler Board will be in June. Right now, it looks like we will have the following vacancies and we desperately need Twirlers to fill them. Without a complete Board, the Club can’t function.

VICE PRESIDENT--The Vice President, with the Class Managers, is in charge of the class. He or She also makes the announcements and takes over if the Presidents are gone.

CO-TREASURER— work with Dale to take money at Club dances and workshops, pay bills, and keep the financial records of the Club.

CCHA REPRESENTATIVE—CCHA is the organization over all the square dance clubs in the Inland area. They have quarterly meetings and the Club’s CCHA representative attends those meetings and reports back to the Board and attends monthly Twirler Board meetings.

SUNSHINE—The Sunshine person is responsible for letting Club members know the Club cares for them by sending cards for special dates and flowers or other gifts when something beyond a card is appropriate. Attends monthly Board meetings.

HOSPITALITY INTERN—Rosalie does a fantastic job making sure there are munchies, food and drinks at Club dances and the workshop. She has held this position for many years and would really like to have someone to share the responsibilities and eventually would take over the position.

NEWSLETTER & WEB EDITORS— Lorie has been doing this for a few years and would like to step down. We’re looking for someone that is interested in putting together the newsletter and publishing for the club. ** I (Lorie) will be happy to help a volunteer through the transition of one or both jobs

If one of these Board jobs seems like something you would like to do, or to just find out more about the position, talk to Jackie or Sue.

DO YOU HAVE SHOES YOU DON’T WEAR ANY MORE?

Greendog Foundation, a dog rescue group Chris Burns is involved with, is collecting any kind of gently used shoes to donate to Shoes for Shelters. You DO NOT have to polish them or fix them up, the company does that. All kinds of footwear is acceptable, flip flops, heels, ski boots flat shoes , dance shoes etc. If you have questions, ask a board member or Chris. The shoes will be sent to 3rd World Countries and, if they collect enough shoes, the Greendog Foundation can earn a $1,000 grant to help support their dog rescue efforts. See Chris for more information and bring your used shoes to her before April 30th.
