Call MeetingFebruary 15, 1918

Early in the week Cap-tain Sitton of the Home Guards called for a meet-ing of its members for Wednesday night in the District Court room, and had a full house of loyal spirited men as a result.

At this meeting eight non-commissioned of-ficers were temporar-ily appointed as follows: Sergeants: Chas. Kilroy, Raymond Clinton, A. S. Hardy and Clark Fuller; Corporals, Ed. Rummel-hart, Sam Fine, Gerald Wallis and John McCle-neghan all of whom have had some military ser-vice. Sergeant Gibbs of-fered his services to the officers which were gladly accepted.

50 YEARS AGOSidney Teachers Salary Raise Makes $5800 Base

February 14, 1968

Sidney school teachers were given a raise Mon-day evening by a unani-mous vote of the Board of Education, which brought the base pay for begin-ning teachers from $3500 annually to $5800, and gave an increase to all teachers ranging from 700 to $1265.

The increments, or yearly increases granted the 97 Sidney teachers were also increased from $180 to $200 and another category, the Bachelors plus 18 credits spot, was added to the schedule.

40 Years AgoTractorcade RouteAnnounced for Sat. February 15, 1978

Interested persons with any sort of farm ve-hicle may participate in the tractorcade Saturday to begin at 1:30 p.m. ac-cording to the committee organizing the parade. The tractorcade is being planned in conjuction with an American Agri-culture rally the same day at 3 p.m. at the Sidney High School Auditorium.

Dick Musil, Dain Olsen and Phil Miller, all of Pot-ter, organizers for the pa-rade, said the tractorcade would form across from the State Patrol office on west Illinois Street.

Bob Lafler, one of the organizers of the rally, said he’d like to see as many vehicles with signs

pertaining to the strike as possible in the trac-torcade. “We don’t want somebody out for a Sun-day drive,” he said.

February 12, 1993

A fast moving snow-storm that dumped up to 10 inches of snow on Cheyenne County WEdnesday night and Thursday delayed the opening of most schools

in the county and closed two. However, no electri-cal outages were reported and only one minor auto accident occurred due to the storm.

Leyton Schools were closed Thursday due to impassable country roads.

Lorenzo School was also closed Thursday, but is back in operation today.

Sidney, Lodgepole, Pot-ter-Dix, and District 77 all delayed their opening for two hours Thursday.

A spokeswoman at Wheat Belt Public Power in Sidney said the com-pany had “no problems” with storm-caused out-ages, unlike eastern por-tions of the state where numbers of power lines were reported down.

10 YEARS AGOSuspected Camper Thief

Pleads Not GuiltyFebruary 15, 2008

A Florida man suspect-ed of stealing a Sidney resident’s camper from the Maddox Motors prop-erty where it was stored is slated to appear in Nebraska’s 12th District Court in Cheyenne Coun-ty for a jury trial in June, officials said.

Michael F. Bandura, 33, of Cantonment, Fla., pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Dis-trict Court on Tuesday. According to court docu-ments, he was found in possession of a camper owned by John O’Rourke along the shoulder of In-terstate 80 in Wyoming.
