Class 4 saw the massive radio telescope designed by Bernard Lovell.

This is the Lovell Radio Telescope. The telescope was designed by Sir Bernard Lovell. It is the third largest steerable radio telescope in the world at 76.2 metres in the diameter. It was completed in 1957. Part of the telescope was made out of gun turret mechanisms from battle ships HMS Revenge and Royal Sovereign. It has been used for measuring the distance to the Moon and Venus also for SETI ie searching for little green men.

We played with the whispering dishes that were 50 meters away from each other. You could still hear the other person when they were whispering.

Mars Rover Challenge • The Mars Rover

Challenge was where we had to land a raw egg safely when dropped from the ceiling, so it wouldn't crack. Here is a year five and six group making their egg safe using balloons to cushion the impact. (Their egg landed safely.)

What you doYou have 5 minutes to plan

how you are going to make your egg land without cracking . Then the instructor gives you your equipment and you can start to construct your discussed model. You have 30 minutes to make your mars rover. When your minutes are over the teacher collects your design. They go up a ladder and it gets dropped from the ceiling. The instructor unwraps the raw egg to see if it’s cracked.
