Term 3 - Important Dates to Remember
A note from the Principal
Welcome to the Clairgate Chronicle – Week 8, Term 3. How fast is this year travelling!
Fantastic Fitness Fun Festival Unfortunately our Athletics Carnival cannot go ahead as planned this year. In an effort to continue our excellent tradition of school sporting spirit and to give the children an opportunity to participate in some athletics events we will be holding a Fantastic Fitness Fun Festival on Monday 21st September.
We will be holding modified sprint and middle distance races as well as high jump events on our school grounds for students turning 8 or older this year. Unfortunately we will not be able to have spectators on site due to COVID safety regulations.
A note is coming home this week with more details.
Clairgate Art on Parade Instead of our usual Clairgate on Parade to celebrate Performing Arts, we will be celebrating our student’s lovely creative art works next week.
Reminder – Parking Parents, please do not park in the staff car park (unless you have a Disability Parking Permit). It has been noted that frequently parents and caregivers swing into the driveway at a fast speed and then do 3 or more point turns to leave both in the mornings and in the afternoons. This is very dangerous and is putting young people’s lives at risk.
Thank you to the many, many people that treat the school area with respect and safety.
Thanks everyone, Stay safe.
Kind regards, Michelle Lawrow

Term 3, Week 8 Wednesday, 9th September 2020
Bounce Back
In 2R this week, we discussed why nonsense makes us laugh and the benefits of laughing. We discovered that we can exhibit this behaviour by; laughing with friends, at ourselves and also at books, poems and movies we love.
● We read a few nonsense poems and realised that we don't always need to understand everything to share happiness and laughter.
● We discussed how while we can all have different thoughts and opinions, we can all find a commonality in enjoying laughing.
● Lastly we talked about how laughing can make us happy which is an important part of a healthy life.
In 4K this term, we have been focusing on values, and how having core values is important for growing into happy, healthy people. One particular value that we have engaged in discussions about is honesty. In these discussions, we spoke about:
What honesty looks like in their personal relationships, and how being dishonest can affect the way their friends and family think of them. This topic really resonated with the students, as they shared their own personal experiences with honesty, as well as expressing their own hurt/disappointment when others were dishonest with them.
Students spoke about how they feel about Bounce Back and why it is important. "I like Bounce Back because we get to talk to each other, and share what we do." "I like Bounce Back because you get to share how you feel with everyone. If you are feeling sad about something, you can share it with other people in class or the teacher and they can help you."
We are loving Bounce Back in 4K, and can't wait for Term 4!
P & C News
P&C News The P&C is excited to announce that we have passed a motion to introduce EFTPOS as a form of payment! We know many have been asking for this for a while so we are very pleased to be able to provide it as an option. Of course there is a cost involved with providing EFTPOS and as such, we will be introducing a flat surcharge of $1 for each EFTPOS transaction to cover those fees.
Cash will continue to be accepted for those who prefer. We will keep the Clairgate community informed through the implementation process and will notify families once the feature is ready to use.
Additionally, the P&C have been busy behind the scenes organising some exciting fundraisers in the lead up to Christmas! As you are aware, current circumstances have made traditional fundraising impossible and we have had to think outside the box a little to ensure we can still provide some fun and successful fundraising activities for students and Clairgate families to enjoy!
Stay tuned for more details! Next P&C meeting - TBA
We have continued to enjoy reading the CBCA Book of the Year Shortlisted books. Years 3, 4 ,5 and 6 students have been using the Library’s Oliver home page to write brief reviews of some of the books.

Challenge
Stage 3 are learning about electricity and the fuel sources used to generate it. As
part of their investigations the students independently researched and presented
information about different fuel types such as solar power, geothermal energy,
biomass, coal and oil. They enjoyed presenting their ideas and projects to their
classes using PowerPoint.
Stage Two are studying the Science unit Melting Moments. They are
learning how heat and cold affects solids, liquids and gases. Their
homework project was to investigate and observe how foods are
affected by heat and cold.
Week 9 Making fresh pasta
Week 10 Boiling the fresh Pasta from week
9 and cooking up past sauce with
ingredients from our garden.
Corn Fritters! During week 7 students enjoyed making corn
fritters. The students learnt how to make the batter by measuring the ingredients. Then with the watchful guidance of Mrs Lindsay, students
cooked and devoured fluffy golden corn fritters. Students loved them so much, they lined up for
more. It was a cooking success! Healthy and delicious all in one. The recipe was also written into their gardening books so they can make the
fritters at home with their families.
Ready for SUMMER! During week 8 students enjoyed preparing the soil and planting seeds ready for our
summer harvest. They planted watermelon, zucchini, cucumber, tomatoes and climbing beans. Now we wait for the magic to begin. But in the meantime our
Bee Garden is producing beautiful flowers to provide nectar for our bees.
