Google’s Authorship or Authority tag option allows website and blog

owners to Claim authorship for their content in a unique way.

So what exactly is

an authority

tag?

Simply put, an authority tag is a small piece of HTML that when placed on any web page links the content to its author by way of a bio and photo. In the case of Ekwa clients, the link will be to the Google+ profile that we have set up on each client’s behalf.

Once the authority tags are in place, Google’s search engine page results (SERPS) may include the Google+ photo with each page of content listed. This process helps to cement your authorship of the original content and will give your pages credibility.

Having the photo will further establish you as an expert as searchers see your photo over and over again in search results on relative topics, and will bring an additional human element to your website content.

It’s only in experimental stages now, but Google hopes to use the authority tag information as a ranking signal in the future.

Starting today, include the authority tag on each of your website pages. Make sure your Google+ profile is up to date, tell it which photo to use and “close the loop” by adding a link back from your Google+ profile to your website!
