City Sheds Shadow Stephen Nolan A glimpse.. Used a small step ladder. Must have climbed it a thousand times. Up and down affixing one or other of the 1,000,000 staples I had in boxes...somewhere. Worked outside. Protected from the changing elements under a plastic structure that was like a second skin. A glimpse further .... Thought of shadows. Thought of how some New York streets now enjoy more direct sunlight than before. Thought of office workers. Wondered if while working by windows, those office workers on one of those streets enjoying more sunlight would put up with the glare of the sun on their computer screens as some sort of sacrifice or homage or whether they simply turn their monitors the other way. A glimpse further still......... Rebuilt the towers. Out of staples and paperclips, Millions of them. 2.5 meters tall. They stood in my sitting room in place of the television; removed in their honor. Detail obscured by shadow lit presentation. (©) 2009 Stephen Nolan
