NEED San Jose has one of the nation’s largest urban trail networks, with over 50 miles of paved and unpaved trails. Commuting, walking, biking, accessing nature or getting to the nearest festival: San Jose’s trail network has it all. With nearly 1 million residents in the heart of Silicon Valley, the City of San Jose wanted to be able to help visitors find and access trails via mobile or web. MAKING IT EASY The City of San Jose signed up for an Agency Trailblazer account and over the course of a few weeks added all of their trailheads and trails into the Transit & Trails web/ mobile platform. Each trail includes photos, descriptions, amenities, and links back to San Jose’s trails website for more in-depth information. NEEDSan Jose has one of the nation’s largest urban trail networks, with over 50 miles of paved and unpaved trails. Commuting, walking, biking, accessing nature or getting to the nearest festival: San Jose’s trail network has it all. With nearly 1 million residents in the heart of Silicon Valley, the City of San Jose wanted to be able to help visitors find and access trails via mobile or web.

Transit & Trails is a mobile and web platform that helps people find, plan and share outdoor adventures, enabling visitors to easily plan trips to parks and trails using low-impact modes to get there.

IMPACT/RESULTSThe City now has a maintenance free way for their visitors to explore their trail network on mobile or web. The City provides links to the free mobile app and the landing page so visitors can quickly explore and plan trips to all of the City’s trails.

Working with Transit & Trails gave San Jose an extremely low-cost way to highlight and provide interactive directions to their expansive trail network. And with trails now available on other third party outdoor sites that are using the Transit & Trails API, San Jose is exposing their trails to more people.
