Title:CityofPoulsboAnnualTourismMarketingServices&SupportBriefDescriptionofProject:(andeventsthatwillreceivelodgingtaxfunding.) Visit Kitsap Peninsula provides the City of Poulsbo, Poulsbo lodging establishments, and tourism related attractions, businesses, services and non-profit groups with year-round access to affordable, professional level marketing, public relations, and internal and paid broadcast, print, digital, and social media services. Another important benefit the VKP offers Poulsbo is its ability to combine lodging tax funds from Poulsbo with lodging tax funds from Kitsap County, the tribes, and other donors, funds to provide Poulsbo with affordable access to regional, national, and international tourism marketing support other local organization might not be able to provide or afford either individually or collectively. The VKP sincerely appreciates its professional partnership with Poulsbo and enjoys a positive and production collaboration with Poulsbo stakeholders and looks forward to working together in 2020. Event/AttractionSupport:The VKP is committed to working with Poulsbo lodging establishments and other tourism stakeholders to provide marketing support for a wide-range of events happening throughout the year. Major events and tourism stakeholders include: Poulsbo Historical Society/Maritime Museum (and VKP Regional Tourism Info Annex hosted by PHS); 2nd Saturday Art Walk, Viking Car Cruz, holiday shopping and other events hosted by Historic Downtown Poulsbo Assoc. (HDPA); Winter Rendezvous and other events hosted by Port of Poulsbo, Viking Tour (Poulsbo Rotary/outdoor recreation), Viking Fest (and related events), 3rd of July, May Day, Mid-Sommer Festival, Yule Fest/Holiday Celebrations (Son’s of Norway/HDPA), Poulsbo Arts Festival (NW Cultural Arts Foundation, cummer concerts and other events hosted by Park & Recreation; Paddle Kitsap (Bainbridge to Poulsbo/KP National Water Trails), Poulsbo’s Farmer’s Market, Poulsbo Community Orchestra. The VKP also promotes Poulsbo’s many breweries and growing nightlife, vital to attracting a younger demographic. To help fill up lodging establishments mid-week and shoulder seasons, the VKP also markets Poulsbo’s “Little Norway” as a popular waterfront, cultural destination tourists may enjoy anytime of the year.

FUNDINGSOURCESFORTHISPROJECT

Listallfirmcommitmentstodatetofundthisproject:

Source Amount Poulsbo Lodging Tax is the primary source of funds used to promote and support Poulsbo hoteliers with year-round marketing support. However, funds contributed by other sources (see below) make it possible for the VKP to easily include Poulsbo in a wide range of local, regional, national and international marketing and PR programs that constantly generate awareness about Poulsbo among locals as well as visitors.

Listanyothersourcesoffundingyouhaveappliedfor:Source Amount Status

The VKP’s only source of funds used to provide tourism marketing support for Poulsbo is derived from lodging tax funds awarded by Poulsbo’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. As mentioned above, the VKP combines Poulsbo’s lodging tax funds with lodging tax and other funds awarded from other entities that provide Poulsbo with a wide-range of local, regional, national, and international marketing services as described in other sections of this application and attached “2020 Scope of Work and Deliverables.”

Specifically, howwillthisgrantbeused?(Whatkindsofadvertisingwillbeused?Howwillyoudistributetheinformation?Howdoyoudocumentyoursuccessesandresults?)(Seebelow)Poulsbo Lodging Tax funds are used to pay for marketing services that directly support Poulsbo lodging establishments and tourism related entities (see below). The goal is to pro-actively promote Poulsbo’s image as a popular, year-round destination for both day, overnight and multiple-day/night visits. As noted above funds allocated to the VKP will help provide valuable marketing support to all Poulsbo’s lodging establishments and nearly all tourism related events, attractions, and services. The VKP plans to continue its successful partnership with Poulsbo Historical Society/Maritime Museum and contract with the PHS for $500 a month to act as a regional visitor information annex to share information with locals and visitors about Poulsbo and the Kitsap Peninsula. VKP will provide the Maritime Museum with year-round marketing support, materials, and equipment to ensure volunteers have the tools needed to serve visitors. Funds are also used to provide professional level marketing consulting, design, photography, funds for printing and other services to the HDPA and other groups as requested. Funds are also used to host travel writers and groups referred by the Port of Seattle’s International Tourism Office. Whatkindsofadvertisingwillbeused? Howdoyoudocumentyoursuccessesandresults?Since the VKP does not directly book rooms, plan or host events, or have direct access to proprietary sales data from lodging establishments, it relies on first hand feedback from hoteliers, WA State Department of Revenue data, and reports from tourism industry firm, Dean Runyan Associates. Unfortunately, due to technical issues still unresolved since April 2018, we are unable to complete sales data but it does appear based on partial reports that Poulsbo did see an increase in sales over 2018 The VKP also relies on direct feedback from hoteliers and the number of requests received for visitor information, visitors to the VKP website and social media sites. All indications are that past and current marketing strategies used to promote Poulsbo are generating positive economic results. Identifythespecifictourismaudience/marketlocatedmorethan50milesfromPoulsbothatyourorganizationwilltargetwiththesefunds.As noted in the “Advertising” section above, nearly all VKP marketing programs target visitors from the Puget Sound region, Northwest states, Vancouver BC/Canada and international markets. As part of its partnership with the Port of Seattle, the VKP hosts travel writers and agencies from Europe. Another source of information for international travelers is the VKP International section that offers information in Japanese, German and or plan to visit the area, through its partnership with the Port of Seattle to host travel writers and agencies from Europe. Another source is the VKP International page that offers information in Japanese and German, and Norwegian which feature Poulsbo’s Little Norway. While the VKP online and digital advertising provide Poulsbo with the ability to reach a global audience, the core of it’s marketing strategies is to target travelers and residents in the Puget Sound which can provide sales support during mid-week and shoulder seasons. We also encourage Puget Sound area workers to spend their un-used vacation days visiting Poulsbo on the Kitsap Peninsula.
