NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a special meeting of the Pasadena Public Library
Commission will be held by video conference/teleconference on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss matter on the attached agenda. This virtual meeting is held pursuant to Executive Order N-29-20 issued by Governor Gavin Newsom.

Commissioner Patatian motioned and Commissioner Karatsu seconded to approve the February 19, 2020 meeting Minutes as presented. The motion passed 6/0 with Commissioner Mehmood. ACTION TAKEN.
b. Reorganization of Elected Commission Officers. Commissioner Rotter motioned and Commissioner Dickerson seconded to approve the following reorganization of officers with Commissioner Karatsu as Chair, Commissioner
Stammer as Vice Chair and Commissioner Patatian as Egalitarian. The motion passed with Commissioner Mehmood absent. ACTION TAKEN (taken out of order)

FY20 WORK PLAN
AUGUST 2020 UPDATE
NOTE: Due to COVID-19, Commission Work Plan deadline is postponed to March 2021. An update to the FY2020 work plan is included here versus a new one for FY2021. Red text
are additions discussed during July 2020 meeting. This update will be revisited again in Winter/Spring 2021.
The role of the Pasadena Public Library Commission is to advise the City Council on matters relating to the public library system, in order that the library is well managed in a manner
consistent with the law and policies, and to advise library administration on the development of library policies. The 2019-2020 Work Plan outlines how the Pasadena Public Library
Commission aims to support and advise the Library in the upcoming year. Whereas this
work plan will span an entire fiscal year, the Commission will evaluate the progress of each of these goals on a quarterly basis to ensure progress is being made and the goals are
completed. The following goals and objectives make up the Pasadena Public Library Commission Work
Plan for 2019-2020.
Goal One – Advocacy – advocate and be a champion for Pasadena Public Library services at the local, state, and national levels.
a. Support and advocate for library by serving as community ambassadors, attending
major library events, interfacing with City Council, advocating for budget needs, and
supporting library staff. Represent Library Commission at district meetings, State of
the City, and other local and regional meetings.
b. Actively support and promote library programs and services, such as Office of the
Young Child, One City One Story, special events, and day-to-day programs, as well
as promote them to sphere of influence.
c. Stay abreast of state and national library legislation and support as necessary.
d. Represent Library Commission at local community events.
Goal Two – Fiscal Responsibility and Stability
a. Continue to work with Director of Libraries and Information Services on Library fiscal
issues and challenges, including regular updates on library budget.
b. Support the library by taking a leadership role in the planning for the renewal of the
library parcel tax.
c. Meet with respective City Council members, as necessary, to highlight library budget.
d. Attend or watch City Council meetings during library budget hearings.
e. Support library administration with the reopening of library facilities, advise staff on
library programs and services, and help library staff ensure community needs are met
during COVID-19 pandemic.
Goal Three – Commission Business & Meetings

AUGUST 2020 UPDATE
a. Support the Office of the Young Child and any future Early Childhood Committee.
b. When possible, interact and potentially partner with other City Commissions.
c. Review existing statistics, such as collection statistics, trends in library usage,
program attendance, etc.
d. Work with library staff to fine tune a document/brochure that highlights the Library
Parcel Tax, its revenue, and its use.
Goal Four – Partnership Development – assist library staff in creating and growing
partnerships in the community and region.
a. Utilize personal and professional networks to advance the mission and goals of the
Pasadena Public Library and enhance library’s cultural presence in community.
b. Attend cultural and civic events to expand network.
c. Engage community to ensure library is meeting community needs.
d. Through partnerships, support City and library initiatives, such as Census 2020
outreach, Women’s 2020 events, Sister City, etc.
e. Support library profession through meetings and attending conferences.
Goal Five – Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
a. Support the Pasadena Public Library efforts in equity, diversity, and inclusion.
b. Highlight library’s diverse offerings during outreach and advocacy efforts.
