Team Heworth went on the road again tonight visiting City of Newcastle Golf Club where they were greeted by Club and Team Manager Michael and Captain Simon. High praise for their stunning refurbished clubhouse and locker rooms which matched the excellent condition of the golf course to make for a good match. Mark GMAC McAllister looked somewhere back to the player we know he is after a couple of defeats and played some great golf tonight. Straight hitting and cool under pressure he came through to win the 17th hole to seal his 3&1 win. Lawry Cook played some solid golf too but the wand was out of magic tonight as he couldn’t convert the chances his excellent approach play warranted, none more so on 17 & 18 where two missed birdie putts seen him lose 1 down against a very good opponent in James Walmsley. Aaron Scott playing at No1 tonight looked in fine form once more. Splitting the fairways with precision driving he got off to a shaky start having left his putter on the practice area only realising when he reached the 1st green. With that initial susprise out of the way Aaron showed some real class in coming back from a one time 3 hole deficit to go up 18 all square. Having watched his opponent narrowly miss his birdie putt Aarom converted his 6 footer for birdie and the win. Perhaps a touch unlucky for the home man after a very well contested match, well done Aaron and unlucky Zac! Newly crowned 14 time Heworth Club Champion Dave Moralee continued his fantastic run of form against the strongly fancied Dave Ridley. Dave played some outstanding golf and carved out a 4 hole lead at one stage before the local man made a very strong comeback. Dave was as calm as ever though and seen out his match with handshakes on the 16th. The match of the night saw John Scott tee it up against local man Patrick Small. The match ebbed and flowed all night before the match came to life on the par 5 17th. John looked favourite having seen Patrick hit a fairway bunker. However Patrick hit the shot of the night from the bunker 150 yards onto the green and rolled his putt in for a brilliant birdie. John was faced with a 6 footer which he cooly rolled his in for his birdie and an excellent half. The 18th saw Patrick find the green side bunker to put John in pole position as he found the green. His opponent was this time unable to get up and down from the beach and watched John make a routine 2 putt par for the win. An excellent match! What a difference a week makes! Nigel Ralph returning to winning ways with a superb display in a comfortable win, the match ending on the 16th green. Great performance and a sure contender for player of the season. Keep it going Nigel!! Vice captain Jason McGuire had a subdued night losing out to Ken Cairns who played some solid golf of his own as they shook hands on the 17th green. Jason tried out a new putter tonight and never really looked comfortable on the greens, and the result will likely see it relegated to the garage, or ebay, or the bin! Well played Ken. Our thanks to our supporters on the night, Neil Corbett, Gary Scott, Glynn May and Andy Stevenson, and to City of Newcastle Club Captain Simon and Club Manager Michael for their warm hospitality and the presentation of the course. We also wish them the very best of fortunes in their new clubhouse! All in all a great win tonight which sets up a dramatic last match away to Crook, all support is most welcome! #teamheworth #loveheworth #heworthfamily 4 10 Tuesday 30th July 2019 at City of Newcastle GC Aaron Scott Jason McGuire Dave Moralee Lawry Cook Mark McAllister Nigel Ralph 2 2 2 Heworth Win Name RESULT pts Name pts Zac Laws Ken Cairns Dave Ridley James Walmsley Patrick Small Keith Alexander Kev Hutchinson John Scott 2 2 2 1 UP 1 UP 1 UP 3 & 2 2 2 & 1 4 & 2 3 & 1
