Lecce is a town of 95,027 inhabitants of southern Italy, capital of the

province situated in Puglia, in the flattest part of Salento.

The capital and largest cultural center of the Salento peninsula, home

of the archdiocese and the university is located 11 kilometers from the

Adriatic coast and 23 from the ion coast. It is the provincial capital of

eastern Italy.

Active in the agricultural industry (oil, wine), ceramics, paper mache

and cultural tourism, is the city where most elaborate was the

development of Baroque’s Art and Lecce’s stone, a limestone

malleable and very suitable for working with chisel. For the beauty of its

monuments, it is called the Florence of the South Italy.

The city has been included (the only Italian city) in the list of "Best in

PLACE TO VISIT

Definitely the first place to visit is the historic heart of Baroque

building where you will marvel by the visual effect of Leccese’s

Stone, the famous golden stone used for the construction of

the ancient town.

The main square is Saint Oronzo Square, dominated by the

famous obelisk of Saint Oronzo: You can also visit the

church of Santa Croce, considered one of most important

Baroque representations of this land and the Roman

amphitheater from II sec. in excellent condition of

conservation.

Near the square is located the Villa Hall with its beautiful

gardens.

For lovers of oriental culture we recommend a visit to the

Chinese Missionary and Natural History Museum, a

collection of ivories, bronzes and furniture from East.

Also worth of a visit is the Provincial Museum titled to

Sigismondo Castromediano, where are kept

archaeological’s relics that cover a wide historical period,

from Bronze Age to the late Roman Empire.

The majestic Cathedral Square, surrounded by numerous

baroque office buildings of the church symbol of the city, the

Cathedral, featuring a bell tower and valuable

a statue of a Saint Oronzo framed by an arch

triumph of considerable value.

Former Celestine Convent, today the Government Palace,

built in 1600, in his charming interior courtyard

The church dedicated to Saints Nicolò and Cataldo, XII

century, with its beautiful Romanesque portal and rose on the

facade.

LIVE LECCE

The Municipality of Lecce has launched an experimental activation of mobile users by creating islands of Wi-Fi in various meeting places of the city, providing the routing of Internet traffic with a line of 8 Mbit / s. The service, organized and managed by the city of Lecce, uses the technology partnership of Telecom Italy SpA and Guglielmo and Wireless Internet Service Providers Ltd. The creation of an infrastructure of Internet access over Wi-Fi allows for free use to citizens, tourists and students authenticated, equipped with laptops, PDAs and mobile phones equipped with wireless communication interface, stopping in the city areas covered by the signal . Active service on a trial, completely free and available 24 hours, is available to all who request it.For children, it is necessary that a parent consents to its registration. To use the service must sign the Registration Form, accompanied by a valid identity document, and collect a Lecce Wi-Fi Card at the Tourist Information Offices located in:
