Semi-Toned presents Sing Theory (all ages) Friday, April 14, 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $24 adults; $12 ages 0-18. Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. Semi-Toned is the University of Exeter’s famous all-male singing group. The men have been at the forefront of British a cappella singing for several years, winning the Voice Festival UK, the Edinburgh Fringe Bobby award and are the champions of BBC2’s show “The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain.” Semi-Toned also made the front page of “Buzzfeed” in 2015 with their debut music video “Rich Man.” This will be their third tour of the U.S.A. Praised for their creativity, uniqueness and vocal acrobatics, the group embraces music of a variety of genres to ensure there really is something for everyone in any of their shows. His career as a professional civil engineer led him to Alaska to work on the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline and to Chicago, Illinois, as general manager of the company that built the power plant for the McCormick Place Convention Center, the largest convention center in the United States. Overstreet is the recipient of 50 community service awards, and was inducted into Ohio University’s Russ College of Engineering & Technology Academy of Distinguished Graduates in 2006. He received the Ohio University Alumni Association Medal of Merit Award in 2011. In-depth discussions will include topics such as racism’s impact on the African-American family, the “missed” education of the Negro, missing the boat of economic opportunity, crime in black face, and much more.

This year for African-American Heritage Month, we highlight artwork by local artist and retired Clark County teacher Sylvester Collier. His paintings focus on African-American history and are known to be very colorful, with a combination of realism combined with abstracted spaces. His figures float in grounds that are collaged with images that stand for the past history of the person highlighted in the image. 2017 Nevada Watercolor Society Signature Member Show March 9 – June 3, during reception and by appointment. The Neon Teapot Prize A Juried Ceramic Teapot Exhibit March 16 – June 8, hours Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; closed weekends and holidays. Free admission and open to the public. Las Vegas City Hall Grand Gallery, 495 S. Main St., first floor. The Neon Teapot Prize offers high school ceramics students the opportunity to raise the stakes in their educational experience. All of the details of the exhibition are based on international professional calls for work in the ceramics industry from the juror selection to the venue. There will be five national artists and educators as the jurors. They have been pulled from around the world to make the selections for this exhibit. The artists are highly respected in the ceramics field and will exhibit their work in the Grand Gallery alongside student works. The exhibit organizers, C.A. Traen and Robert Lawarre III, are two mentors who are artists teaching high school. The mentors will each exhibit one of their works in the gallery during the show. They will also collaboratively select one student work to be recognized for the “Mentors’ Choice” award.

Traen is an artist living and teaching in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she has mentored 250 students annually at the ceramics studio at Rancho High School. Active since 2011, She has taught workshops and exhibited in the United States, Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, Croatia, China, and Taiwan. Lawarre is a ceramic artist working and teaching in central Florida. His work can be found at galleries in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, France and Taiwan.
