A NEW oncology patient transport service
will soon be on the road ater Council
committed $30,000 in unding. The
service will help patients access treatment
by providing economical transport rom
their homes to medical acilities.
Each year, more than 2700 people are
diagnosed with cancer on the Gold Coast
and currently there is no transport service
catering to the needs o patients.
In addition to Council unding,
community contributions are needed.Donations can be made directed to the
Cancer Treatment Transport Fund via

GOLD COAST residents will soon have
a say on plans to better protect the
Gold Coasts 29 gol courses rom
redevelopment or housing, commercial
and other high-level uses.
Drat amendments to Gold Coast
Citys Planning Scheme have receivedinitial State Government endorsement,
meaning Council is now able to ask the
public or eedback.
The citys gol courses are key sporting
and tourism assets and an integral part
o the Gold Coast landscape, providing
valuable open space and food storage.
While the proposed changes cant
prevent uture development proposals,
they will signicantly strengthen the citys
planning scheme to better preserve these
important sporting and open space assets.
The drat amendments will be
advertised between 9 November and 21
December and can be viewed at Councils
Surers Paradise, Nerang and Coolangatta
ofces and at Elanora and Helensvale
Libraries. They will also be available or
viewing on the web at goldcoastcity.com.
au/planningscheme, by ollowing the
links to the planning scheme amendments
page. Submissions must be in writing and
received by Council by 21 December.

Cool reading at runaway
bay branCh library
Air conditioning units are being replaced
at the Runaway Bay Branch Library to
improve conditions or customers during
the hot summer months. For saety
reasons, the library will be closed rom
Friday 20 November. It will re-open on
Tuesday 24 November.
During the temporary closure, items can
be borrowed and returned at other
Branch Libraries, including Helensvale
and Southport, or returned to the ater
hours chute at the Runaway Bay Branch

GOLD COAST City Councils Bold Future
project has taken top honours in theQueensland Public Sector Excellence
Awards or Best Practice in Local
Government.
The awards recognise innovative
improvements within Queenslands
ederal, state and local public sectors.
The Institute o Public Administration
Australia (IPAA) is the peak body
representing more than 270,000 public
sector proessionals.
Bold Future is one o the most
extensive community consultation
processes ever undertaken in Australia.
It creates a blueprint or a socially,
environmentally and economically
sustainable city. More than 11,000
Gold Coast residents contributed to its
development.
At the awards, Gold Coast Water
Inrastructure Planning Manager,
Guillermo Bill Capati was also named
the Public Sector Proessional o the Year.
Bill has been part o the Gold Coast
Water team or 10 years, contributing
to major projects such as the planning
o $1.6 billion worth o inrastructure
assets. These have included water
mains, pump stations, reservoirs and
treatment plants.
ANNUAL DREDGINGo Tallebudgera Creek
has started, with about 50,000 cubic metres
o sand being placed on Burleigh Beach
beore the summer school holidays.
Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks
are dredged annually or food mitigation
and to prevent erosion.
Currumbin Creek was dredged frst
this year with 57,000 cubic metres o
sand placed between 3rd and Palm Beach
Avenues, Palm Beach.
The Tallebudgera Creek dredging
campaign is now underway, which means
Burleigh Beach should be in tip top
condition in time or Christmas.

CONSTRUCTION OF a permanent
southern grandstand at the Gold
Coast Stadium, Carrara could be brought
orward ater Council committed
$3 million over three years.
Councils contribution o $1 million in 2010,
2011 and 2012, will be contingent on securing
urther unding rom other unding partners,
i nc l ud i ng the S tate and Federa l
Governments.
Funds would also be allocated to solar
technology around the stadium roo, to
provide 20 per cent o the complexs
energy needs.
