CITY OF GROSSE POINTE WOODS
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HERRINGON INCREASING PROPERTY TAXES
The City Council of the City of Grosse Pointe Woods will hold apublic hearing at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 1993 in theCouncil Chambers at the Municipal building, 20025 Mack Plaza, toreview the proposed 1993 tax levy for the said city.
In 1992 the City of Grosse Pointe Woods levied a total of 11,4650mills (111.465 per S1000 5EV) for the City's general operatingfund; swimming pool bonds; park redevelopment bonds; andemergency medical services (advanced life support ambulance) andfor solid waste/recycling/disposal operations. In 1993 the Cityof Grosse Pointe Woods proposes to levy a total of 11.3950mills (511.3950 per $1000 SEV) for the City's general operatingfund; swimming pool bonds, park redevelopment bonds, emergencymedical services (advanced life support ambulance); and a solidwaste/recycling/disposal funds as provided by Michigan Statutes.
The State "Truth in Taxation" law (P.S. 5 of 198 22) provides thatthe base tax rate for 1993 City shall be an estimated 10.8273mills. The "Headlee Amendment" currently limits city operatingand solid waste taxes at 18.1508 mills.
To fund the City of Grosse Pointe Woods' proposed 1993-94 budget,to maintain the present level of service to continue to providefunds for curbside recycling, incineration and the maintenanceand replacement of infrastructure, the City finds it necessary torestore a portion of its solid waste and operating millage. Rnadditional millage rate of .5677 mills (5.5677 per $1000 SEV) isproposed above the estimated 1993 base operating tax rate. Thisrepresents an increase of 5.24% in the millage rate (general fundoperating, debt purpose, emergency medical service and solidwaste/recycling/disposal fund) for the property owners of theCity of Grosse Pointe Woods. The increase in millage provides anestimated 4.98% increase in operating revenues.
