This programme is organised into three different tracks that are Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning and Policy and finally, ICT Technologies for Planning. By choosing the second curriculum, students will gain, in addition to the Italian qualification of graduate degree, the qualification of European postgraduate degree in “Planning & policies for cities, environment and landscape” jointly issued by Iuav and the following universities: Università di Sassari-Alghero, Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Girona, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. The programme is organised into four semesters characterised by diverse teaching methods. In their professional life, the urban designer/planner is able to interact with interdisciplinary work teams, creatively express the knowledge and skills gained in response to new demand from society and the market and project themselves towards future work. Graduates may work on a self-employed basis by enrolling, having passed the Professional Licensing Examination, in Section A of the Register of Architects, Planners, Landscape Designers and Curators or Conservators or offer professional, unregulated consultancy in the fields of planning and more generally research into urban, regional and environmental transformation.

an intensive, interactive approach. For those aiming for the European postgraduate degree, the third semester will be spent in Barcelona, Girona or Lisbon. The fourth semester consists of an internship and the thesis. Students can also experience intensive study sessions at summer and winter schools and study trips.

Professional profileThe professional figure created by the programme will be able to take on key roles of planning, coordination, consultancy with high responsibility in the fields of local planning, urban design, landscape and environmental design; to interact with a complex clientele, whether public, private or third sector, with expert and non-expert interlocutors. Furthermore, he/she will be equipped with advanced skills in the use of new technologies in areas of planning and urban design. Urban designers/planners will be able to use the appropriate tools to define public policies for the governance of the city, territory and environment; they will be able to develop urban, regional and environmental plans and programmes, both with reference to the disciplinary content and the participatory and communicative methods required within the planning; They are skilled in the use of assessment methods and techniques for processes and consequences of public action; they are familiar with and use ICT to manage strategic themes in governing the city, territory and environment; they are able to operate in the construction of sector plans, in interaction with other professional skills, especially concerning the implementation of procedures for energy transition and adaption/mitigation of climate change.
