Profile of Jury Members

PHD ANNUAL AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE 2014

Chairman of the Jury – Hon'ble Dr. Justice A. S. Anand obtained degree of Phd (Law) from London University. He served as the 29th Chief Justice of India, from 10 October 1998 to 31 October 2001. On 11 May 1985, he was appointed as Chief Justice of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and on 1 November 1989 as Chief Justice of High Court of Madras. On 17 February 2003, he became the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission till 31 October 2006. He is Fellow of University College, London, Honorary Fellow of the Society for Advanced Legal Studies, London, Honorary Bencher of Inner Temple, London. Dr. Anand has obtained degree of Phd (Law) from London University. On 10 May 2008, Dr. Anand was bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in India.

Mr Sunil Kant Munjal is a senior member of the $ 5.6 billion Hero Group. He is the Joint Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp Ltd., the world's largest motorcycle manufacturing company, and Chairman of Hero Corporate Service Ltd., the Corporate office for the Hero Group. He is responsible for chartering the course for entire Group's development including strategy, plans and performance. Mr Sunil Kant Munjal is the Founder Chairman of BML Educorp Services and is the guiding force behind the BML Munjal University and is playing a key role in helping create a unique Higher Education Initiative. Mr Munjal is the Chancellor of BML Munjal University which has started in August 2014.

Mr. Sudarshan Agarwal is the former Governor of Uttarakhand and Sikkim. He is also a former Member of the National Human Rights Commission and Secretary General, Rajya Sabha. Mr. Agarwal served as the President, Delhi Gymkhana Club for two years. He has taken several community service initiatives including a free Boarding School for girls in Dehradun and a Voluntary Blood Bank at Delhi.

Dr. S. Y. Quraishi is a former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India. He was appointed as the CEC on 30 July 2010. He has also served as a Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. He is an IAS officer of the 1971 batch from Haryana cadre. He has a Ph.D. in Communications and Social marketing. He was also a Member of the Advisory Committee to assist and advise the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security.

PHD Chamber Annual Awards for Excellence were instituted in 1997 to recognise Indian businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals for their outstanding achievements/ contributions in select areas and to promote corporate and individual initiatives in economic, social and educational areas. Each Award is focussed on a different theme and consists of a Trophy and a Citation.

The process of selection started with inviting nominations which were compiled by the Secretariat and validated by an independent agency i.e. Grand Thornton India LLP. The applications were then presented to the committee members who recommended top applications as guidelines to assist the Jury. The Jury then made the final selection.

National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC) was incorporated in 1997, as a company not for profit under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956. It is an apex Corporation under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India. The objectives of NSKFDC are to promote socio-economic upliftment of Safai Karamcharis / Scavengers and their dependents by way of providing financial assistance at concessional rates of interest for any income generating activity throughout the country through the State Channelising Agencies (SCA)s, Regional Rural Banks (RRB)s, Nationalized Banks and also to provide technical and professional training, quality control, technology up-gradation, and common facility centres for carrying out sanitation works.

NSKFDC has bintroduced a scheme 'Mahila Adhikarita Yojana' (MAY) in order to focus on the development of women. Under this scheme, they provide loans at concessional interest rates to Safai Karamchari women beneficiaries and their dependents daughters upto revised limit of Rs. 50,000/- per member. Further, the Corporation has introduced 'Swachhta Udyami Yojana- Swachhta Se Sampannta Ki Aur' wherein they extend the financial assistance for construction, operation and maintenance of Pay and use community toilets in Public Private Partnership Mode and Procurement & Operation of Sanitation related vehicles.

The company also organises Job Fairs, Awareness Camps and workshops to provide job employment of the trained candidates and to create more awareness about the schemes and programmes of NSKFDC among the target group at the grassroot level.

In order to bring the improvement in the working of the Corporation; to provide best Customer Satisfaction and to ensure the effective Quality Management System (QMS) in the Corporation has obtained the ISO Certification 9001:2008 from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Award for Excellence in Skill Development

Hari Shankar Singhania Elastomer & Tyre Research Institute (HASETRI) was set up in 1991 and is into the business of Education, training, research and testing in the field of Elastomer, Tyre, Rubber Science and Technology.

HASETRI imparted training to candidates under the Standard Training Assessment & Reward (STAR) scheme of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Govt. of India in rubber sector (under Rubber Skill Development Council) for the job roles of mill operator & Tyre Building Operator- commercial vehicles. The Institute has been approved as the first training provider (TP) for rubber sector by RSDC) under NSDC, GOI. HASETRI being NABL Accredited Laboratory (ISO/IEC:17025:2009), knowledge and skill development is a part of their Quality policy as required by the systems and applicable for Internal as well as External customers.

HASETRI in association with Indian Rubber Institute, Rajasthan Branch, is spreading Rubber technology education in the neighboring Universities by conducting regular weekly classes, short courses, seminars, conferences, etc.

The Institute also provides its scientists and engineers opportunity to upgrade their knowledge through its self development scheme by giving them an opportunity to attend different trainings, seminars, conferences and workshops.

HASETRI has conducted an international workshop on 'Reverse Engineering of Rubber Products jointly with IIT Patna. HASETRI scientists act as visiting faculties in various academic institutions i.e. Rubber Technology Centre, IIT Kharagpur; Department of Polymer Science & Technology, University of Calcutta, etc. The Institute has signed an MoU with various universities for carrying out B. Tech, M. Tech, M. Sc., and Ph. D programmes in polymer science and rubber technology.

It acts as a catalyst for rapid economic development and prosperity of the community in the region through promotion of trade, industry and services. Our focus areas are Infrastructure, Industrial Policy, Education & Skill Development, Health and Rural Development & Agribusiness.

The Chamber caters to the business, economical and social interests of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Chamber comprises of over 1700 members as its direct members.

PHD Chamber provides an excellent forum to industries for getting their problems addressed by and suggestions put up to relevant government authorities at the Central and State level, through focused interactions with the Government officials and submission of memoranda and representations.

Chamber produces well researched background papers on topical issues to initiate informed debate and discussion. It has strong global linkages build up through over 60 MoUs with the trade bodies.

To discharge its social responsibility, the Chamber has two voluntary organizations, namely PHD Rural Development Foundation (PHDRDF) & PHD Family Welfare Foundation (PHDFWF) for fulfilling its commitments to the cause of socio-economic development and to promote the role of corporate sector for the upliftment of rural masses.
