cisv indonesia - "save them to save us" - aim2013 success story
DESCRIPTION
CISV Indonesia's presentation to CISV International's Board of Trustees at AIM2013TRANSCRIPT
SAVE THEM TO
SAVE US!
Why Did We Do It?
Indonesia is one of the homes of orangutans, primates who share 97% of DNA with us, humans.
Sadly, 80% of their homes, the rainforests, have been destroyed.
The number of orangutans decreases as fast as the declining number of the rainforests: their
habitat and also the world’s lungs.
What makes it worse, the campaign about this matter is not as much as it is supposed to be.
CISV Indonesia, together with an LMO named
BOS (Borneo Orangutan Survival) held a Mosaic Program called:
“Save Them to Save Us”
The objectives of the Mosaic is to spread awareness and to raise fund
to save orangutans that at the same time will save the rainforests and indirectly will save us as well.
How Did We Do It?
Before the D-Day
We spread news about this Mosaic program on facebook.

T-Shirt Design Competition
On the D-Day
Brainstorming about
orangutans and their habitat.
Watching a short movie about orangutans’ life and the rainforests
in Indonesia.
Explanation of the movie by resource people(LMO) using games
as the media.
Figure out the species
andspecial
characteristics of
orangutans.
Role play with a debriefing after.
A sharing session with the Ambassador for Orangutan, who is also a CISVer.
(To inspire the participants to become agents of change in the community).
Writing postcards to spread news about orangutans to their friends
and families. The postcards were then sent by
the committee.
On this event, all the participants and committee wore the t-shirts
that the design won the competition.
The money we got from the t-shirts sold is used to “adopt” orangutans.
After the D-Day
This is not the end of the Mosaic activity.
The program may be over, but the spirit to keep on raising fund to
help orangutans is still on.
We are still selling t-shirts to raise fund for orangutans.
The procedures of the adoption is under CISV Indonesia supervision and the LMO
will provide the updated news in accordance with the agreement
(visit http://adoption.orangutan.or.id)
The efforts to save orangutans are still going on with the selling of the t-shirts and spreading news about
them and their habitat.
So far, the selling of the t-shirts has roamed not only among
Indonesian CISVers, but also Asia-Pacific CISVers.
Just like us, orangutans also have the right to life.
When we take care of orangutans and their habitat, that means we take care of the rainforests, the
world’s lungs.
In other words, if we save orangutans, we also save ourselves.
Save them to save us!
Let’s save them to save us!
