Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Program
Program Overview
The USAID funded TVET Program, implemented by Save the Children in partnership with Mercy Corps, is
designed to lay the foundation for a broader youth development program that will provide critically-needed educational and employment opportunities to Palestinian youth. The TVET Program is making an important contribution toward strengthening and diversifying the skills of the rapidly growing Palestinian workforce
– which subsequently will serve to benefit the Palestinian economy.
Mercy Corps
Mercy Corps Knowledge based interventions within the TVET Program focus on strengthening the TVET League Institutions through effective utilization of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) in developing their organizational & training capacity. In partnership with Cisco, Mercy Corps commenced the establishment of Cisco certified training academies. The TVET Program selected Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology which has extensive experience in providing market driven, hi-tech vocational training to Palestinian youth, to lead the establishment of the local academies.
HHCOT - Cisco Regional Academy:
The Regional Academy (RA) will be re-sponsible for:
Providing Local Training Academies with •all required training for their trainers prior to teaching the Curriculum.Responding to program related ques-•tions from all Local Academies in a timely manner as necessary to effectively operate the Program.Ensuring the ability of Local Academies to •meet all Local Academy quality require-ments prior to admitting them to the Program.
Partnerships
The Academies aims to provide a consist-ently enriching learning experience by partner-ing with public and private institutions such as schools, universities, businesses, nonprofits, and government organizations to develop and deliver innovative ICT courses, improve the effectiveness and accessibility of the program, increase access to education and career op-portunities, and help ensure that students and instructors have the resources they need to accomplish their goals.
Two trainers from Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology completed training at the Cisco Regional Academy training center to became certified Cisco trainers.

Comprehensive Learning Program
The Cisco Networking Academy is a global education program that teaches students how to design, build, troubleshoot, and secure computer networks for increased access to career and economic opportunities in communities around the world. The Networking Academy provides online courses, interactive tools, and hands-on learning activities to help individuals prepare for ICT and networking careers in virtually every type of industry.
21st Century Career Skills
Cisco Academies deliver a comprehensive 21st century learning experience to help students develop the foundational ICT skills
needed to design, build, and manage networks, along with career skills such as problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students will complete hands-on learning activities and network simulations to develop practical skills that will help them fill a growing need for networking professionals in Palestine and around the world.
Cisco Local Academies (LA):
The LA will offer entry level IT courses in:IT Essentials: An introduction to computer •components, laptops and portable devices, wireless connectivity, security, safety, envi-ronmental concerns, and diagnostic tools.CCNA Discovery: A foundational curricu-•lum that offers a hands-on approach to
Accomplishments Establishing the Cisco Regional AcademyA Regional CISCO Academy has been established at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology (HHCOT)and is now officially registered as part of the international Cisco networking Academy.
Steps takenIn partnership with Cisco, Mercy Corps commenced the establish-ment of Cisco certified training academies through the TVET Program. The TVET Program se-lected Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology which has extensive
experience in providing market driven, hi-tech vocational train-ing to Palestinian youth, to lead the establishment of the local academies.Preparationsthe Academy was equipped by the TVET Program with state of
the art IT equipment and teaching aids. Two Master trainers from HHCOT completed their training at the Cisco Regional Academy training center in Lebanon and became certified Cisco trainers after passed all exams with very high scores.

Target Students
The academies will target students who have completed the 10th grade with basic computer knowledge. The graduates will be skilled with needed ICT skills that will enable them to perform the duties of entry level office-tech or support technician. In addition the academies will offer Cisco certified market driven skills upgrade courses to IT professionals.
