International Convention (ICON) is held every year to give members of Circle K the chance to meet fellow Circle K’ers from all over the world. This year, ICON took place from June 22-26 in Virginia Beach! There was a great turn out to ICON despite the cost to attend and having to travel far. In fact, New Jersey district had the most members attend with 31 attendees! Way to go New Jersey!
Opening session was great because it got everyone excited for the next couple of days by giving each district the opportunity to perform a cheer. New Jersey had their own take of the song; Party Rock. New Jersey is in the house tonight! ICON also consisted of a keynote speaker, workshops, an awards night, and a dance. Jason Barger was the keynote speaker at this year’s ICON. He wrote the book; Step Back From the Baggage Claim where he talked about his experience living in an airport for about a week observing people. He was a great speaker and I feel everyone enjoyed listening to what he had to say. There were a number of different workshops that attendees could go to. Jason Barger held a workshop, March of Dimes, Eliminate Project, Better World Books, and so on. There was always a workshop available for people with different interest to go to. Awards night was so inspirational. New Jersey was recognized multiple times and I could have not been prouder! So, keep up the good work, New Jersey! The dance was a lot of fun. It was great to have the time to relax and enjoy the night with your district after a long business week. ICON was a great success and I encourage all members to try to attend ICON at least once during their time in Circle K. Not only do you get to vote on new Bylaws and learn more about Circle K, but you also get the opportunity to create strong bonds with your district!

While I was at the LSSP at Virginia Beach I was thankful and grateful enough to work at a camp for the mentally handicapped. I also did manual labor at a Goodwill store lifting entire sinks, and lastly I volunteered even after LSSP to go work at a soup kitchen, where I received some extremely serious burns on my arms and hands that I still have on me, and refuse to Vitamin E or coco butter it away. It is a part of me like many of my other scars from serious issues that I still deal with to this day. It is a part of me, a part of my being, my story. It’s odd, but I for some reason I prefer physical labor, when I feel sweat, pain, anguish, a sense of being tired comes over me, I know that retribution can come my way from whatever will meet me one day. Hard work, sacrifice, and putting others first I feel is the best way for a man to be… a man.
I was a part of the very nice and varied Sand Dollars group. Allyson was our group leader, who I got a sense was like a sister or a sibling. Odd? I think not, for someone like me, and not wanting to get to real, I don’t have siblings, grandparents, and my parents split up when I was young, I live in a lonely life, so it was a nice escape to be a part of a family and see what it was like to have brothers and sisters.
The most direct thing I got out of volunteering with CKI members is that we are all so varied. It was nice to see variety in my life. It was like we were all ingredients in a Saladworks salad. No matter what is in the salad, it’s extremely awesome and gets you stoked. Yet sadly, there were some bad things that I personally have to try to deal with. Its separation anxiety, I broke down the last day, and it reminded me of my small family dwindling and slowly turning into air and whispers in my mind, and loneliness took over my mind once again.
I feel that no matter where we go or who we help, any service is beneficial, and a convention right on the beach is clearly more than enough to ask for.
I feel that instead of something to bring only to the NJ district, but to the entire CKI LSSP or ICON is group sessions to help get out our issues, addictions or demons. May you be religious, non-religious, gay or straight, black or white, conservative or democratic, man or woman, these group therapy sessions are for everyone and would a be a great tool to let anything out that you need to, because I know all too well personally if something is held in, you will blow up. These would be extremely beneficial, as letting things out is the best coping mechanism out there.
In the end of it all, I feel that my time at LSSP meant that I felt to have a purpose, life stirred in me. Even in my lonely life, I didn’t walk down a boulevard of broken dreams, I diverged from it for a time, but I feel that it made the road a little more enjoyable to walk down, even if for a week.

Hello New Jersey!
Now that the spring semester has begun it' s time for a fresh start and new beginnings! I know the past semester has been rough, especially with the cancellation of our INSIGHT Retreat, but we' ve got so much planned for the next three months to make up for it. Coming up this week, we have our annual Winter Social which is being hosted by Monmouth University this year. It' s Masquerade themed so bring your masks and dress to impress on Friday, February 17th.
Get ready to get your hands dirty on Saturday, March 3rd at the annual District Large-Scale Service Project (DLSSP) and spend an entire day doing service with your Circle K family. And of course we' re ending the service year strong with District Convention from March 23rd-25th where District elections will take place, workshops will be held, and epic celebrations will ensue! Oh, and did I mention it’s DISNEY themed? It can' t get any better than that. I can' t wait to see everyone soon - it' s definitely been too long. Get ready for a crazy three months! Your Governor,

service together as a district. The more people you have involved, the more of an impact you make!
5. Favorite Fundraising Event: The Emmanuel Cancer Foundation fundraising event. It was my first fundraising event I attended as a Circle K member and the money that is raised goes to a great cause!
6. Why did you join Circle K? I always wanted to be part of a service organization in college. After attending a few meetings and Insight... I grew a passion for helping others and met a lot of great people that shared the same passion!
7. How long have you been in Circle K? One year! 8. What are you looking forward to the most during this 2011-2012 CKI Service
Year? Helping out with the planning of Insight! After attending Insight, I was hooked on Circle K. I can't wait to assist in planning an event that made a big impact on my life. And, of course, doing a lot of service with my favorite people

wonderful world of Circle K during Key Club District's board meetings last year, and blew my mind away with the one Circle K event I attended last year, the K-Family picnic. I was sold before my senior year even began.

Waking up at five in the morning on a Saturday does not really sound like fun. Add a four hour drive on top of that, and it doesn’t sound like it will be adding up to an exciting weekend. And it wasn’t, it was an amazing weekend. On the first day of the 4th Annual Subregion F Event, after what seemed to be an endless journey (so many tolls!), playing with dogs could seem kind of trivial. But these dogs were something special. Abandoned and currently orphaned, they were longing for care and compassion. Being able to tend to dogs that were clearly hurt was an awesome experience. We always hear about district events or international events, but we don’t often get a chance to be with our own Subregion. This, in my opinion, made the event extra special. The entire weekend was fantastic. Service, as always, was inspiring. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones was awesome! Coming together as servers, leaders, and friends, was exceptional. This weekend proved that Subregion F is the best!
