Mardaani

Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji) is a senior inspector with the Crime Branch department. She is a tough cop, who is unforgiving on criminals, and has established her own style of investigation thanks to her fearless attitude. Pyaari, an orphan girl, is kidnapped one day and so Shivani steps in to investigate this case and very soon, she realizes that there is a big human trafficking mafia behind this kidnapping.

Story

Final WordOn the whole, Mardaani is an out and out Rani Mukherji film and her performance as a fearless cop definitely keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. Barring a few brutal scenes, the film’s gripping narration and the performances make this film a must watch.

Singham Returns

Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) is still the strict, disciplined cop who believes in changing the society more than punishing. He has his own norms of functioning but it is expected of him that he tones down. Afterall, the supercop is now posted in Mumbai. He is given the responsibility of providing protection to Guruji, a political stalwart who dies under his custody.

Story

Singham Returns doesn’t match up to Singham and that is the failure of this franchise venture. It is definitely a very watchable film with Ajay putting in his best foot forward in a role that brings out his caliber to the fullest but for those who are expecting a Rohit Shetty fun watch, this film is neither immensely entertaining or superbly enjoyable.

On a whole Rabhasa has nothing new to offer and no way an useful film for anyone. The comedy in the second half entertains the audience for a while and the predictable plot with a bad narration makes Rabhasa a below average film. Watch Rabhasa if you have too much time and patience.

As time passes by, he keeps up his promise, and gets Gayatri a huge break and makes her a renowned singer. In the due course of time, the couple also falls in love with each other.

Story

Nee Jathaga Nenundali is no way Comparable and Close to the original. Because of the Stunning music, Lead pair performance and the production values the film ends decent. Ashique 2 non watchers can watch the film once. One Time Watcher.

Irumbu Kuthirai

Irumbu Kuthirai is a shining example of cinema that dares to be different, of going against the set norms, of defying the rigid set of laws of Kollywood formulaic films. It was touted to be a first of its kind Tamil movie which has a race backdrop. The promo promised lot of slick action and was received well among the youth.

Siddharth not happy with his producers

Sridevi in Drishyam?

South Indian star Suriya and his on-screen romances

Hero Siddharth’s upcoming action entertainer Jigarthanda has been postpond indefinitely and more shockingly, Siddu came to know about delay quite late. He fumed over this and tweeted about the movie producers. “The producer of #JIGARTHANDA has personally informed other producers and distributors about the postponement. He has not informed us yet,” he wrote in his micro blogging account.

Evergreen beauty Sridevi made a grand re-entry with English-Vinglish but she did not appear in any film later. However, latest reports say that, Sridevi might feature in the remake of Drishyam which will have Kamal Haasan has male lead. Definitely Sridevi is an intelligent choice as she grabs the attention with her performance also. But we need to wait and see if, she obliges to make a comeback into Tamil Cinema.

Tamil star Suriya who will next be seen as a baddie in Anjaan opposite Samantha will once again play a double role- the first being Maattrraan. Suriya who has a huge fan following in South India said, “It’s been long since I played a baddie and such roles give us a lot of freedom, no logic and we can do whatever we want.” However, the star is the king of romance too. Its not new to say but Young Tiger NTR carried Rabhasa on his shoulders. Specially his expressions in emotional scenes are top notch. amantha looks beautiful as always, and has a meaty role in the film. But it is Pranitha, who walks away with the cake. Even though her role is limited only to the first half, she looks gorgeous and shares a sizzling chemistry with NTR. Jayaparakash Reddy did one more hilarious characted and gets full marks out of it. All others have did their jobs for their roles.

Diolagues and Screenplay of the film are below the mark and the placement of the scenes are quite predictable. Director Santosh Srinivas plays it safe, and chooses quite an old and predictable script. He just showcases the film in a simple and routine manner. Production values are OK. Music has been routine and Photography is just average. Director Santhosh Srinivas who scored a hit with Kandireega has failed in executing a mass hero like NTR.

Performance

Story of the film is quite routine, and has nothing new to offer. First half of the film is quite simple, and has not much story in it. The fights that come quite often irritates us and the graphics in the fights are of low quality. The songs are shot so bad that we feel bored. NTR has nothing to do with the dance movements in the first half.

The second half starts on a comedy note entertaining us with some laughs. Comedy episodes involving Brahmanandam are good and will largely entertain the audience. The twists in the story confuses the audience too much and finally the movie ends on a routine note.

SoumyaSukumar on ‘Pora Pove’

“I have done a role in which it goes in parallel with the hero. Very few people will get such roles in the starting of their career. I am very happy that I am one among them. Even though I am a Tamilian, I was born and brought up in Hyderabad,” stated this cute girl Soumya Sukumar, whose first film ‘Pora Pove’ is all set for release. In an interview, the actress shares about her and the film.

Your background details?I’m basically a Tamilian, but I was born and brought up in Hyderabad. Dad is a sales tax department job holder, mom is a house wife and I have a younger sister. I know Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and English and apart from these I know French.

How did you get into the film industry?I was into modeling since my childhood. I did few Ads for JC Brothers and Swasthik. That is how my journey started.

What is your parents’ reaction on your journey?I came to the film industry only because of the support of my parents. They respected my decision and have given their support. I am here just because of their support and co-operation.

How did you get this first opportunity?I came to know that director Krish is doing auditions for ‘Vedam’ and I was selected in that. My first opportunity came without much hard work.

Soumya Sukumar Exclusive Photos

How was your working experience in the first film?In ‘Vedam’ I did a small role i.e. as a friend of Manoj. I was a member of their rock band team. I did the same role in Tamil film ‘Vanam’ which is the remake of ‘Vedam’. That is how I was introduced to both industries with the same film.

How did you get the opportunity in ‘Pora Pove’?Jayapal Reddy, who worked as assistant cinematographer for ‘Vedam’ has referred my name to the director Lankapalli Srinivas. He did an audition and selected me.

What is the reason behind the title ‘Pora Pove’?The film has equal importance for both hero and heroine. Once you watch the film, you will get to know the exact reason. The title is apt as well as catchy for the film.

What is your role in the film?In the film, both the hero and heroine have equal importance. I did a bubbly role. Even the role of hero is an easy going type.

Tell us about your director?Director Lankapally Srinivas has picturized the film with a wonderful story. It is a clean film where everyone can watch. Each and every scene in the film was picturized

with good care. The film is a mixed bag with all the elements like comedy, emotions etc.

Tell us about your producer?Srinivas and Veerendra

did tremendous job. They trusted the story and has

not compromised in any aspect. They made ‘Pora Pove’ with perfect

planning from starting to till the end. They are taking the same care for the

release even.

Have you seen the film? What are your feelings?I have watched the first copy of the film. There was a positive response from

the team unit. Now, we are waiting for audience response.

Who are your favorite heroes?Stylish star Allu Arjun and Prince Mahesh Babu are my favorite heroes.

Who are your favorite heroines?Aishwarya Rai, Genelia and Samantha are my favorite heroines.

Do you have a dream role?I always have a desire to act characters like that of Genelia’s in ‘Bommarillu’ and the character of Sridevi in ‘Kshana Kshanam’ and also a movie like ‘Geetanjali’.

What is your next project?I have few offers, they are still in the pipeline. I will update the same very soon.

Sharwanand has already proved himself as a good actor. Though many of his films

were critically acclaimed,he has no proper commercial hit in his 10 years long career. But ‘Run Raja Run’ has changed his fate as an actor. This film, which was released on

August 15th, has been running successfully with packed houses.

Sharwanand is very happy about it and in an exclusive interview with Indiaglitz, he has shared his joy, his experiences with director, music director, heroine, producers etc and his upcoming films.

Credit goes to them

It is better to say that UV Creations has given me a hit, rather than I scored it. I’ve been waiting for 10 years for a success like this. I thank my friends, family members, media and all who have supported me.

Fantastic response

The response for the film is fantastic. The openings are very good and it is getting repeat audiences to the theatres to watch the film and we are getting messages that the film is very good. The response in overseas is overwhelming and we have even increased 30 theatres there.

They believed in me

There is no special reason for the change in me . I am always selective regarding the scripts and always done scripts that I felt good. When Sujeeth came to me with this script, I asked him how did he imagine me in this role. He said that as an actor, I can do any kind of role. More than myself, my director and producers have believed in me and I thank them now.

He is an inspiration

I’ve always done movies with new directors. Whether it is ‘Vennela’, ‘Gamyam’ or ‘Journey’, they are all new directors then. I don’t consider if the director is big, small, new or experienced. I see their conviction and their passion about the movie. Sujeeth has all the qualities required to become a director. He has come to the industry, doing many short films and proving himself in different genres. He has worked very hard and I had no doubts regarding his talent. If you do a short film, you will have some basic ideas of film making. Trend is changing very fast. If at all the short filmmakers are doing good films, it is because they are working hard. It is good to see short film makers making it big here. Sujeeth is an inspiration to young

filmmakers.

Couldn’t come out of it

The film has started within a week after ‘Satya 2’ was completed. I couldn’t come out of the Satya character and when I asked the director and producers if we can start the film after a month, they said that we have start immediately as date issues may arise. We started then itself.

It is the best USP of them

The producers are more like my family members. I know Vicky from my childhood. Vamsi, Pramod and Vicky are very passionate about movies. They only know and think about cinema. They look after everything very well. That is the best USP of UV Creations.

Only because of Ghibran’s music

If the movie has got good openings it is only because of Ghibran’s music. Repeat audiences are coming to the theatres to watch ‘Bujji Maa’ song. The song is so popular that even small children are singing it. Even my brother’s children are singing Bujji maa in house and it is so sweet of Ghibran to give such a wonderful music.

Hardworking actress

Seerath Kapoor is a fantastic actress. It is very difficult for actresses coming from Mumbai to tell Telugu dialogues. But for her first film itself, she learnt every dialogue and deliver it. She is very talented and hardworking actress. She is a very good dancer too.

He is our darling

I should really thank Madhie for his amazing work. If I am look so handsome in the film, it is only because of him. We have shot the movie in Hyderabad. But many have felt if we’d really shot the film here.

Page 38: CineSprint Magazine Volume 3 Issue 6

38 WWW.CINESPRINT.COM | SEPTEMBER 2014

He has done such a wonderful job. He has given a different tone to the film. He is our darling and it is a great working with him.

Will Keep doing them

I don’t think there is a particular genre called safe genre. We do every film with the same dedication and if we know it will not work out, why would we do it. I’ll keep doing different genres and it is my USP.

Will work with them

If the story is good, I will work with anyone. Any short filmmaker can come to me, if they have a good story. I will be more than happy to work with them.

Won’t act in those films

I will produce films. But I will not act in those films.

It is important for me

I don’t believe that I am a star. Stardom is what my films should bring me, but I won’t work towards it. Many have wished that I should get a hit as I didn’t have it, though I am acting for 10 years. That love is very precious and important for me. I will work for that love, but not to get stardom.

Hats-off to them

If you see the career graph of Bunny and Nithin,

you will say hats off to them. They have worked very hard to learn dance and fights. The way they moulded themselves regarding their body language or any other thing is praiseworthy. I am telling this because, I know them from my childhood. Many good actors like Naga Shourya and Raj Tarun are coming to the industry. It is good to see all of them and I am very happy about them.

Don’t believe in it

I don’t believe in competition. There will be healthy competition between us, but if I see someone without background come to the industry and does well, I feel happy about them.

Thankful to them

If we work hard, we will be successful in the industry. I will be ever thankful to the industry because it is the people here, who wished me a good success and congratulated after scoring me. The positive talk has come out from here.

Upcoming films

I am currently doing a film produced by K.S.Ramarao. It is a very good love story. The shooting has been almost completed. I’ve also Tamil director Cheran’s movie in pipeline. Both the films will be released soon. We are also planning to release the Tamil version of ‘Run Raja Run’. S

When it comes to characterisation, Suirya takes lot of care and special interest lies upon his get up. Whether it may, Surya s/o Krishnan, Seventh Sense and freshly Anjaan [Sikander in Telugu], Suriya has always tried something no contemporary actors of Kollywood experimented.

A lot has been said, written and discussed about Suriya’s Anjaan which lighted the silver screen for Independence Day. It is Suriya’s first collaboration with the director who knows the pulse of mass audience and he is none other than Lingusamy. When Suriya’s first look was revealed from the movie, the snaps went viral as Suriya looked more stylish and never before.

The movie met with mixed review but all praise for Suirya who outshined every actor in the film. If the director had concentrated more on the script rather than the masala content

[Oh yeah we have to talk about Samantha. She did more skin show compared to her recent Telugu flick and Samantha stunned everyone audience with the bikini avatar. As Anjaan released, audiences flocked at theatre to see Samantha in two piece clothes rather than Suriya, the star actor himself.].

Anyways, Suriya has better potential and gave an earnest performance in Anjaan, and there’s absolutely no doubt about it.

SpecialStory Chiranjeevi is all set

to make a comeback after a hiatus of 7 years. His 150th film is going to a complete entertainer. Here is idlebrain.com’s exclusive interview with Chiranjeevi on the occasion of his birthday on 22 August 2014 -

Page 61: CineSprint Magazine Volume 3 Issue 6

WWW.CINESPRINT.COM | SEPTEMBER 2014 61

Tell us about your 150th film?I want to give what people want. Audiences and fans want a complete entertainer for me. This film will have a lot of comedy and masala. I don’t want to make a historical film like Uyyalavada Narasimha Reddy or message oriented film just because it’s my 150th film. I am listening to stories. Once we finalise the right story, we will decide about the director. Ram Charan will produce this movie.

You had been away from films for 7 years?Yes. I am away from acting for the past 7 years. But I am in touch with film industry. Thanks to Ram Charan. I have been listening his scripts. Whenever I listen to a script, I put myself in hero’s shoes and imagine if it works at box office.

You have 3 family members (Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun and Ram Charan) ruling the film industry now. How do you feel about it?Telugu film industry is my domain. I have no regrets for stopping acting and entering film industry. Ram Charan has carried my legacy and filled up my space. Some people speculated that mega era is over when I lost it in 2009 elections. But the success of Magadheera proved that politics and movies are two different and mutually exclusive fields. The phenomenal success of three actors from my family proves the kind of following we have.

What’s the reason for choosing entertainment oriented film for 150th film?I love doing comedy and I was the one hero who introduced full length comedy orientation for a big hero in proper commercial films like Donga Mogudu. Annayya is a fine example of comedy masala film. I have also made sure that there is entertainment

in serious subjects like Choodalani Vundi, Indra and Tagore.

Guna Sekhar wanted it to be a serious film and felt that having entertainment would

dilute the intensity in Choodalani Vundi. I have convinced him and made sure that there is a lot of comedy in the love thread between me and Soundarya. In Indra film too, there is excellent comedy in Kaasi episodes between hero and heroine.

Murugadoss was skeptical when I said that there should be entertainment in the flashback episode of Tagore and I have also suggested that hero shouldn’t die. Murugadoss said that it’s a serious subject and the purpose will be lost if hero is alive at the end. Indra was playing in theaters and I asked Murugadoss to watch that film in public theaters to understand what people want. He was not willing to make the changes. He said that Tagore will become a classic like Alluri Seetharamaraju and Katta Brahmanna if hero dies in end. That’s when we called VV Vinayak and asked him to direct the movie.

Tell us about your observation of Charan’s dances?I enjoy doing dances. If we enjoy and get involved in dances, the flow will be natural and steps will be graceful. I got completely satisfied with Charan’s dances after watching Vana Vana remix in Naayak. There is graceful movement even in his tip of fingers in that song.

You didn’t have any professional training in dances. How did you become the best dancer of Tollywood?I have to thank my manager SP Venkanna Babu, who also produced Donga Mogudu film. I was dancing for a song for a film in my early days of career. I thought that I danced excellently. I asked Venkanna Babu for feedback. He said ‘venaka mundu emi teda ledu’. He meant that there was no difference between the group dancers and me. That’s when I realised that as a hero I should show my speciality compared to background dancers. I changed my attitude and worked harder on dances to be different from others.

Tell us about your heroines? Who do you rate as best dancer?I feel that Sridevi is the best dancer I have ever worked with. Working for ‘Abbani Teeyani Debba’ was so enjoyable. Radha and Rambha are very

passionate dancers and they enjoy while dancing. I had a peculiar experience with Bhanu Priya to start with. She is an excellent dancer and a trained classical dancer. When we danced together for the first song, both of us did well as individuals, but the sync and grace was missing. I was looking at her and trying to interact while dancing, but she was doing it individually. When I asked her about it, she replied that she has to be the best otherwise I (Chiranjeevi) will dominate. I explained to her that we are playing lovers and we should look at each other and enjoy it together while dancing. Then we did the song in a well-synchronized fashion.

What’s the reason for producing 150th film by your family? The production cost has gone up a lot. Hero and director are looking for their big remunerations. Producer is not getting anything on his table after film is complete. As a hero, I act like a custodian/watchdog of budget for my films. It should be a win-win situation for everybody involved in filmmaking.

Is Charan following your principles?Yes. Orange was an exception. Orange went overboard because of misappropriation by the executive producer. It was our mistake.

Let me give you an example. Dharani came up with a nice script for Merupu film. But he has asked for a budget of 40 crores. I asked him to reduce the budget to 30 crores. He didn’t budge. There is nothing wrong with the script. But at that point of time, putting 40 crores on a film was uneconomical. I asked producer NV Prasad if we can stall the film and start another film with a reasonable budget. He has obliged. That’s how Racha film was made. It went on to become a big hit and made profits to the producers.

After watching the rushes of Govindudu Andari Vaadele, we felt that a character is not bringing the required emotion. I asked Ganesh Bandla about the budget impact of replacing a couple of actors and he said that it’s possible. They have shot for 15 working days with those actors. Krishna Vamsi roped in Prakash Raj and Jayasudha. They reshot the same scenes in 8 days with Prakash Raj and Jayasudha. I have also asked Charan to sacrifice a part of his remuneration so that producer will not feel the pinch. There is nothing wrong in stalling a film or altering key actors. We should not go for prestige/pride. We have to look for the safety of producer.

There are speculations about brothers (Chiranjeevi - Pawan Kalyan) getting separated due to political and ideological differences? We are born from the same womb and we have the same blood flowing in us. We share strong bonding since childhood. He is my kid brother. I have chosen my path and he has chosen his path. I have no complaints about his path/ideology. We share the same bonding. Politics is different and personal life is different!!

What are your plans for this birthday?I am going to Nepal along with my family to visit a temple. We then visit a spa for rejuvenation therapy. Ram Charan is going to hold my birthday celebrations here at Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust.

FROM STAGE TO FILMS:

Anjali Devi, originally named as Anjanee Kumari, had a stint with entertainment sector at the age of 8. She had a great passion for stage and dramas and her father Nookaiah, had joined her in YOUNG MEN’S HAPPY CLUB at Kakinada. She debuted on the stage with a play, HARISHCHANDRA and got the attention of the film makers like C. PULLAIAH. He offered her a small role in GOLLABHAMA (1947) and transformed Anjanee Kumari to Anjali Devi!

Prior to becoming a Heroine, Anjali Devi had undergone many upside downs. In her early career, she agreed to play the roles of a Vamp in the films like, SHIVA GANGA, MAYA RAMBHA, MADAALASA, BALARAJU, etc. At last, with the film, SRILAXMAMMA KATHA, she became a full-length heroine, with the encouragement of GHANTASALA BALARAMAYYA. The film was a flop, but Anjali Devi noticed by the film makers and they poured he r with offers.

SUVARNA SUNDARI TO LAVAKUSHA:

The decades, 1950s and 1960s, the Telugu Film world was totally captured with the aura and glory of Anjali Devi, when her films became super hits with the audience. Anjali Devi’s reign as the Queen of Telugu Silver Screen had started with ANARKALI (1955) and reached its zenith with SUVARNA SUNDARI (1957). Her portrayal, acting abilities and expressions blended with dances have spell-bounded the viewers and made her as the highly-sought-after Heroine of those times! Her later super hits like, CHENCHU LAXMI (1958) and JAYABHERI (1959) had proved it again!

In the sojourn of Anjali Devi, as an actress, the film LAVAKUSHA is a milestone, which had transformed the charisma and following of Anjali Devi, in toto, at an unimaginable extent. Earlier, she had mesmerized the public in various genres like folklore, social,

historical period dramas, devotional etc. But her role as SITA in the mythological LAVAKUSHA, had made Anjali Devi as the SEETAMMA THALLI in the minds of the public. After the release and phenomenal success of the film, the people used to come to her to see and worship her with pooja, etc.

HIT PAIR WITH ANR-NTR:

Anjali Devi is the most favorite actress to be paired with the legendary heroes of Telugu Cinema, AKKINENI NAGESWARA RAO and NANDAMURI TARAKA RAMARAO in the golden era of Telugu films! She made the magic with the Heroes as their counterpart and perfect on-screen ‘jodi’.

The greatest irony is that, in the later career of Anjali Devi, she acted as the mother to ANR and NTR in many movies. The contemporary actresses like BHANUMATHI had totally against to such roles at that time. But Anjali Devi is unique and got into the skin and played the roles alone. She is an ardent lover of performing arts and took up the characters of mother to the heroes, to whom ones, she had been paired up with as heroine!

It is very interesting that, she has acted as the old mother alongside NTR in BADI PANTHULU, when she was young. She take that character as a challenge and played the role and made it as an everlasting character in the history of Tollywood!

27 FILMS AS PRODUCER:

Anjali Devi not only confined herself to acting, but also extended her interest in film making and established her own production houses to make the films of her interest. She has started her first film production house, Ashwini Pictures with partners in 1949 and made films like MAYALA MAARI. In 1951, she started her own production company, ANJALI PICTURES. She had produced more than 27 films under this

Legend of Tollywood

She is the performer par excellence! She had a filmy career of more than 5 decades in various characters, starting from small roles to the Heroine to the Character Artist! Anjali Devi had carved her own niche on Indian Cinema, with her special style of acting, dance moves and beauty, which made her as the model to the next-generation actresses. The Queen of Entertainment of yesteryears, Anjali Devi, has passed away on 13th January, 2014 at Chennai in a hospital at the age of 86 years.

banner. Of the list includes the successful films like, PARADESHI, ANARKALI, SUVARNA SUNDARI, SATEE SUMATHI, BHAKTA TUKARAM, KSHETRAYYA, etc.

MARRIAGE & MOVIES:

When Anjali Devi is actively involved in the Stage dramas at Kakinada, she has got the opportunity to introduce with Adinarayanarao, then the budding musician. Later, Anjali and Adinarayanarao got married in 1940, well before her acting debut in the films. But she had realized all her wishes and took a plunge in cinema, with the support and encouragement of her husband. Both of them made a perfect couple and lived their life for the art of cinema and reached heights in their respective paths as an actress and music composer respectively, simultaneously.

Here, it is mention-worthy that, unlike the rule of those times, Anjali Devi played heroine roles after becoming a mother of two children! In general, marriage and children will put a full-stop to the career of the heroine in getting the acceptance from the audience. But Anjali Devi had proved it wrong and ruled the show world with all the charm and craze! Credit goes to her acting prowess!!

HIGHLIGHTS:

Anjali Devi is the first actress to be acted in the first-ever color film in Telugu, LAVAKUSHA.She is the producer of the first Telugu film, which was introduced SLOW MOTION PHOTOGRAPHY in certain scenes. That film is PARADESHI.She introduced Tamil Nadigar Tilagam, SHIVAJI GANESHAN to the Telugu Cinema, with the film PARADESHIShe acted in more than 500 films in all languages. Of them, more than 350 films are in Telugu.

September looks like a very efficient month for you Aries, Jupiter brings joy and dynamic for pleasure and parties but the Sun in Virgo gives you focus at work. You make strong decisions that will give a good image of you. Honesty with yourself is a great quality and you are ready to take responsibilities for your mistakes and to correct them also. Mercury in Libra by the 3rd of September will help you negotiate some arrangements with your loved one, you want him or her to help you more at home, or to share better with money.
