Al l of our discuss ions are recorded for la ter re lease as part ofour ser ies of podcasts , which inc lude discuss ions and analys i sof popular f i lm , less popular f i lm , and f i lm that 's la rge lyunknown . We host interv iews with some of the most interest ingand inte l l igent f i lmmakers of the day ,   inc luding writer /directorAnna Bi l le r , 5 -Second F i lms ' Michael Rousse let , andproducer /director Richard El fman . The Oxford Dict ionary has i t as one ofthe i r words of 2018 . From #metoo to

# fakenews , the concept of gas l ight inghas never been more v is ib le .

On 2 February 2019 , at the Crescent

Arts Centre , CinePunked  hosted ascreening of the f i lm that gave the

phenomenon i t s name : 1940 ’schi l l ing  Gas l ight , based on Patr ick

Hami l ton ’s 1938 play . Fol lowing thescreening , CinePunked 's Robert JESimpson and Dr Rachael Kel ly werejo ined by loca l feminis t writer and

act iv i s t L iz Nelson for a discuss ion ofan eighty -year -old term 's sudden and

alarming resurgence .

theory and publ i shed her doctora l thes is , MarkAntony and Popular Culture , with IB Taur i s in 2014 .

She has writ ten extens ive ly on f i lm f rom both anacademic and a popular standpoint , and i s also a

publ i shed author of sc ience f ic t ion .

Ben Simpson Music ian and teacher by day , audio whizz bynight , Ben i s the producer of the CinePunkedpodcast and our technic ian for our l i ve shows . Heis our vo ice of the people and i s the only one ofthe group not to have studied f i lm .
