Introducing CineGrid• Research initiative to develop a global cyber-infrastructure
suitable for the professional production, distribution, archiving and display of digital media, concentrating on HDTV, 2K and 4K motion pictures.
• Effort to stimulate education and training of next generation digital media professionals, and cultivate global inter-disciplinary communities to help advance the state of the art
• CineGrid will connect people using high performance digital media via secure photonic networks using tools originally developed for scientific visualization and Grid computing
• Initially, 1 GigE circuit linking CineGrid members in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Tokyo for non-commercial tests and demonstrations.
