Oz Opera Media Release For immediate release: 23 February 2009 Primary school students get to go to the Ball with Oz Opera At 10am on Friday 27 February, Oz Opera's Schools Company launches its new touring production of Cinderella in front of 80 primary school children at The Opera Centre in Surry Hills. The show, which will tour for seven months and give 268 performances in 164 primary schools across New South Wales, has been specially devised for children by Opera Australia resident choreographer and director, Elizabeth Hill. For this production Hill combines the pumpkins, glass slippers and magical transformations of Charles Perrault's traditional story with music from Italian composer Rossini's La Cenerentola to make the ultimate travelling opera for children.The sparkling music of Rossini conveys the tale of poor Cinderella overcoming her wicked stepsisters to meet her Prince Charming, with the help of her Fairy Godfather and a very special mouse! This wonderful mix of music, drama and excitement will be performed by six young Australian opera singers Angela Edwards, Sarah Jones, Clarissa Spata, Michael Warby, Ashley Giles and Randall Stewart - accompanied by Daryl Wallis and Heinz Schweers. 2/over
