Petron Wins Chapter Essay Contest and Eagle Scout Award
Donald J. Petron III, a homeschooled student from West Chester, was awarded the 2016 Chapter Level Eagle Scout Scholarship at the February Board of Management meeting. Donald was also honored for the winning entry in the 2016 George & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. Sara Petron, Donald’s sister, was recognized with a certificate for also participating
in the Essay Contest.
Knight Essay Contest Chairperson, Zachary Haines, Sara Petron, Chapter President, Michael Gunn, Donald Petron and Mrs. Petron.
Each year the Chapter awards a $300 scholarship to a local high school student for an essay on various topics related to the American Revolution. The Chapter winner then moves on to compete at the state and potentially national levels. For the 2016 contest the Cincinnati Chapter collected 12 entries, which made quite a challenge for the judges to choose a winner from the fine entries.

Luncheon
“The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution celebrated Presidents' Day on
February 14, 2016, at RSVP on Ward's Corner Road in Loveland. Our guest speakers were Jack
Dominic and Jay Aldrick. They presented a very interesting program about the history of Voice
of America.
President Gunn welcomed the assembly and recognized several local dignitaries. He and
OHSSAR President James Schafer then inducted three new members: Paul Albert Wilke for his
Patriot Michael Emerick of Pennsylvania and Robert Adams and Sawyer Daniel Kuschel for
their Patriot Thomas Hinton of the Maryland Line.
Supplementals were presented to Shaun and Conner Smith for their Patriot John Coy.”

Color Guard Report
February had been quite a busy month for the CCSAR Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard
and the Cincinnati Chapter has been well represented.
On the 12th and 19th Compatriots Gerald Knight, Ken Carpenter,
Jack Bredenfoerder and President Michael Gunn attended
Naturalization Ceremonies and welcomed new citizens to the USA,
presented them with patriotic bookmarks and provided them with
Revolutionary Photo opportunities.
Below is an excerpt from an article submitted by Chapter President Michael Gunn to the Cincinnati Community Page.
For full article go to: http://local.cincinnati.com/share/story/227435
Revolutionary War Uniforms Demonstrate USA’s Courageous Beginnings Before the start of the Naturalization Ceremony held on February 12, 2016 in room 842 at the US District
Court, E. 6th St, Cincinnati, OH, presiding Judge Michael R. Barrett asked four members of The
Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR) of
they would address the 69 new citizens about their uniforms.
During the introductory remarks by Judge Barrett, he stressed to the
soon to be new citizens the importance of their remembering the actions
of Americans who have risked much, even their lives, to establish this
country and to continue to protect the rights and values of liberty we have
come to enjoy as citizens of the United States of America. He then
directed the attention of the applicants to Gerald Knight, Ken Carpenter,
Jack Bredenfoerder & Michael Gunn uniformed members of CCSAR and
asked that we explain what we were wearing and what it stands to
represent.
Judge Barrett was
pleased with the contribution to his ceremony and said
he feels this addition strengthens the beginnings of these
individuals who have done the job of joining Americans
the way it should be done, with the study, learning to
speak the language used here and passing the test prior
to naturalization.

Camping World Receives Award
On February 18, 2016 the Cincinnati Chapter of
SAR President Michael Gunn presented a Flag
Certificate to Camping World, 5300 Dixie
Highway (Ohio State Route 4), Fairfield, OH
45014. The certificate was accepted by two
employees who were excited with
the acknowledgment. Amanda pictured on the
right gave us the information that they began
flying the 40 X 80 ft. flags around memorial Day
2014 and have replaced them four times since
then, due to wind damage to the material. This is
a corporate feature done by most of their stores.
For more on this award please refer to the article
in the February issue of The Cincinnati Patriot.
