Three Key Questions…..

1/ What does the future hold for the Scottish construction sector?

The significant curtailing of public sector capital expenditure has been a

severe blow for a Scottish construction industry disproportionately reliant on

public sector investment. Coupled with limited private investment, the

construction industry in Scotland is estimated to have contracted by a further

3% in 2011 with the forecast of another difficult year ahead.

Three Key Questions…..

2/ What impact will SFT have on the future management of the supply chain?

Despite the prevailing gloomy outlook, there are a number of significant

developments currently ongoing. Notable changes to the construction

landscape include the establishment of the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) “with a

responsibility to deliver value for money across all public infrastructure

investment”.

Three Key Questions…..

3/ What key opportunities exist for research and industry to collaborate?

Notwithstanding the future role and impact of SFT, there are a number of other

significant developments facing the construction sector in Scotland, including

the NHS Framework Scotland (second generation), the low-carbon agenda and

Scottish Independence.

Evidence from the research would suggest supply chain

management ‘creep’ as opposed to ‘substantive’ change.

Reflecting on initial research aims and ambitions, interventions

and the co-production of pragmatic supply chain solutions has

proved to be elusive.

Potential for further avenues of industry / academic research
