Mass Intentions From the Pastor’s Desk
Teaching of our faith in God.
Are you struggling to believe in God in Jesus in the church?
Have you found yourself drifting away from mass, from family, from practice of your faith?
Have you been planning to ‘get back’ to church, but just have not done it?
Join us for the adult education, renewal of faith. Contact Fr. Kelley at the rectory.
What do we do with our money? What do I do with all the ‘stuff’ I have ac-quired? Listen to the rich fool in today’s gospel. His life is all about himself and his wealth. This man can only think of him-self. His private monologue is filled with “I-statements,” “my-statements,” and “you-statements”
He speaks to his own soul: And he thought to himself, “What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?” Then he said, “I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, and be merry.” (12:17-19)
We have all been brought up to val-
ue money, ‘stuff’ and goods more than an-
ything. Still our souls tell us this is fool-
ish, but it is difficult to learn to be gener-
ous, to think of others and not of oneself.
Generosity is a work of God in us. May you
let God work within you.
Msgr. Frank Kelley

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“...rest, eat, drink, be merry!” Sounds appealing,
right! But Paul is wise and kind to caution us as he
cautioned the Colossians in the second reading to “Seek what is above … Put to death, then, the parts
of you that are earthly” We are called to be in the world, but not of the world. In fact, our task is to
sanctify the world around us. Difficult? Sure. But
not impossible—remember, with God all things are possible. This week make a concerted effort to ‘seek
what is above’. Try to add just five minutes to your
daily prayer time with God who is just waiting to hear from you.
2019 Catholic Appeal Conclusion After 6 months of the 2019 Catholic Appeal,
Sacred Heart Parish has raised 69% or $32,115.00 to-ward our 2019 Catholic Appeal goal of $46, 563.00 A sincere thank you to the 181 parish members who each have contributed an average gift of $175.00 thus far.
We will have to make up the difference in our
goal from our own parish funds. This is disappointing.
For this is the first time in 5 years that we have not been
able to meet our responsibilities.
Msgr. Frank Kelley
The St. Vincent de Paul Society at Sacred Heart is
here to help you. If you, or someone you know, is in
need of assistance, please call us at the parish.

IVC New England The Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) opened its New England Region in January 2009. The first Ignatian Volunteers were eleven men and women from assorted walks of life and different educational backgrounds, looking to put their life experiences, talents and time at the disposal of the poor in the neighborhoods of Bos-ton, Worcester and Providence, and in surrounding communities. New England Ignatian volunteers teach, mentor, and advise in a variety of educational programs; provide services to potentially homeless elders; educate and locate resources for adult students and immigrants; as-sist older clients with medical appointments and entitle-ment benefits; offer administrative, development and HR support to non-profit staff; coordinate food and furniture outreach to families in need; coach job seek-ers in a culinary arts program; and organize retreats for homeless and formerly homeless men and women. Volunteers are mature men and women who share their time and talents in service to their community, and who participate in a year-long spiritual develop-ment program, including prayer and reflection in the Jesuit tradition. Volunteers commit to two days per week of service over a ten month period. I you would like more information please contact: Dave Hinchen, IVC Regional Director 617-571-3838 [email protected] www.ivcusa.org/new-england

Sacred Heart School: A STREAM Innovator What is STREAM? STREAM is an integrated curriculum
encompassing Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering,
the Arts, and Mathematics. Scholars at Sacred Heart, from
Pre-School to 8th Grade, incorporate skills from each of
these areas in their work. In the spring, the school showcas-
es this effort in an all-school STREAM night, where each
grade presents collaborative projects that represent their
studies and bring together level-appropriate examples of the
various disciplines. The STREAM curriculum focuses on
critical thinking, a resilient learning through failure and suc-
cess, and collaboration—all skills for a 21st century citizen.
Come by and see what STREAM learning does for our
young scholars!

Please be aware! The RCAB IT Department has noted an increase in the number of phishing emails and text targeting par-ishes and parishioners in the Archdiocese of Boston. Phishing is an attempt by fraudsters to have you trans-fer money to them or purchase gift cards such as iTunes cards. These phishing emails use the pastor’s name for the sender and have some variant of the pas-tor’s name in the ‘from’ email address to give the im-pression it is being sent by the pastor. Please be aware that neither Fr. Kelley nor anyone at the parish would make such requests.
MARYKNOLL LAY MISSIONERS Kathleen Maynard
Speaking August 3-4, 2019 Kathleen Maynard joined Maryknoll Lay Missioners in 2016 along with her Husband Marcelo Maioran, and their two children, Cecilia and Maëlle. Kathleen’s studies and work as a nurse practi-tioner are enabling her to provide information and support, to promote health among vulnerable popula-tions. Kathleen will speak at masses at Sacred Heart church the weekend of August 3-4 to share her mission experience as part of the Missionary Coop-eration Plan 2019. The second collection will be taken to support Maryknoll Lay Missioners. Your kind welcome and generous support is most appreci-ated. Maryknoll Lay Missioners is a Catholic or-ganization inspired by the mission of Jesus to live and work with poor communities in Africa, Asia,
and the Americas, responding to basic needs and helping to create a more just and compassionate world. Maryknoll Lay Missioners sends and supports

MISSION STATEMENT Rooted in the universal call to discipleship, the mission of Sacred Heart and St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Roslindale and Forest Hills is to preach Jesus Christ. Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ takes many forms: preaching, wor-
