Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14th, 2018
The Church has, for thousands of years, set aside this period of time to prepare Her people for the central celebration of our faith---the Resurrection of Jesus, Easter Sunday, April 1st. We encourage all to enter this marvelous season of grace with a spirit of renewal and recommitment to follow Jesus and proclaim the Gospel. To this end, we invite everyone to join us for the various Masses and services we have planned for Lent.
Wishing everyone a very grace filled and holy Lent. God Bless… Fr. John
Distribution of Ashes on Ash Wednesday - 9:00am, 12:00 noon, and 7:30pm Masses Service of the Word at 4:00pm Ashes will be distributed at all Masses and at the Service of the Word.
Celebration of the Eucharist - Daily - Monday-Saturday- at 9:00am, Sunday- 5:00pm (Sat.), 8:00am, 10:00am and 12:00 noon
First Friday in Lent—March 2nd - In addition to the 9am daily Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will follow the 9am Mass and conclude with Benediction at 10:30am. Recitation of the Rosary - Thursdays in Lent at 7:30pm in the Church - The Rosary provides an opportunity for meditation on the life of Christ. Join us. Stations of the Cross— Fridays in Lent at 7:30pm in the Church
Healing Mass/Anointing of the Sick— Saturday, February 24th at 11:00am - This special Mass will provide an opportunity for people to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. The Sacrament is offered to all who are ill (seriously or not) as an aid, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, to their recovery. In other words, there is wide latitude as to who can receive the Sacrament. We therefore encourage everyone to participate in the Mass. RCIA--Praying for those preparing to receive the Sacraments at Easter - Many people may not be aware that the Season of Lent was begun as a way to pray and offer sacrifice for those who would become Christian. From the very beginning of the Church’s history, Lent became a way to support and encourage those who would enter the church and help them to overcome the obstacles that would prevent them from seeing their journey through. No less today, the adults who prepare for the Sacraments through the RCIA need our prayer and support. The RCIA candidates will begin their final preparation on the First Sunday of Lent with the ceremony of the “Rite of Election”. At this rite, upon the testimony of sponsors and catechists, the candidates affirm their intention to join the Church. In the presence of the bishop (or his delegate), they inscribe their names in the Book of the Elect as a pledge of fidelity. This Lent, let us remember to pray for them and offer some sacrifice on their behalf. The Lord will in turn bless us.

Parish Mission - Just a word, that the Annual Parish Mission will take place this year during the Easter Season in preparation for our parish Feast of the Holy Spirit. The dates for the mission will be on Monday, May 14th, Tuesday, May 15th, and Wednesday, May 16th, all starting each night at 7:30pm in the Church. Our speaker this year will Fr. Jack Rapschmidt, a much sought after speaker and whom you will hear more about as we draw closer to the dates of the mission. The Parish Mission is an opportunity, through some insightful and inspiring talks to renew our commitment as disciples of Christ. We encourage all to participate. Reconciliation Monday, March 26th, 2018, 3:00pm -9:00pm - Each year the Church in New York and in neighboring dioceses set aside the Monday of Holy Week as a day on which Catholics can more easily have the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The priests of the parish will be available for confessions at the hours just mentioned. We encourage you to receive the Sacrament before we enter the Easter Season.
**Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. **The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat.
God, heavenly Father, look upon me and hear my prayer during this holy Season of Lent. By the good works You inspire, help me to discipline my body and to be renewed in spirit.
Lord, during this Lenten Season, nourish me with Your Word of life
and make me one with You in love and prayer.
Father of love, source of all blessings, help me to pass from my old life of sin
to the new life of grace. Prepare me for the glory of Your Kingdom.
I ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen

What is a parish? A parish is “a stable community of the faithful within a particular church or diocese, whose pastoral care is confided by the bishop to a priest as pastor (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2179). It is where Catholics in the area can come together for the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist. For Catholics today, our parishes are our spiritual homes. It is where we learn ways to live our faith, deepen our practice, exhibit charity, and join in worship.
