Our choice Each day we have a choice of how we can live. We can waste time cursing the darkness or we can thank God for the light when we have it. We can focus on the ugliness in the world, or we can train our eyes to see and appreciate the beauty that is there instead. – Growing in Faith

From the Desk of Fr. John This weekend, I will be celebrating a special Mass at the College of Mt. St. Mary in Newburgh, where Fr. Francis, our weekend associate, is the Chaplain. I look forward to being with all the students. Incidentally, the Pastor’s Advisory Group will be meeting soon to discuss the possibility of developing a Youth Ministry for the parish. We will eventually invite some of our young people to discuss with us their ideas and recommendations. I look forward to the meeting and thank the group for their interest and good work. Please keep all our young people in your prayers. Mission Week - As we begin our mission week, I pray that it will serve to foster and inspire each of us to a deeper trust in the Lord and a renewed sense of fellowship with one another. I know that Sr. Danielle Baran, our mission speaker will provide insights to guide us to a fuller understanding of faith, life and the mystery of God. Please be sure to join us this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I will especially be praying for all of you this week. Souvenir Jubilee History Book - Just a reminder, you can pick up a copy of the Souvenir Book at the Rectory Office. Thanks to all who made the book possible, to all donors and volunteers. The Bereavement Support Group will begin its Spring Series of meetings on Tuesday, April 18th at 7:30pm in the Rectory Conference Room. They will continue thereafter each Tuesday until May 23rd. We invite all to join us and share their story of loss with others who are also grieving. Please note that all participants are asked to call the Rectory and register for the meetings even if you have participated in the past. I personally keep all the bereaved in my daily prayers and look forward to meeting with you. The Annual Cardinal’s Appeal Update - To date we have raised over $25,000 from 104 gifts. We still have some way to go to reach our goal of $84,000. While the goal may seem somewhat unrealistic for our parish, I point out that the amount we have raised in the last few years and the number of participants has increasingly gone up. Last year, we raised close to $50,000 which represents and historic total for our parish. If you have yet to make a gift and pledge, please do so today. I especially want to reach out to those who have been unable to make a gift in the past and to consider doing so this year. Thanks for all you do for our parish.
God bless and have a grace-filled week…. Fr. John
Parish Mission Prayer
Holy Father, great God of love and mercy, You have surrendered everything for love of us.
Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may do Your will and not our own. Help us to love you above all things and to love Your people the way You have commanded us.
Quiet our minds and hearts that we may be open to the gift of your truth, and grant that our Parish Mission may be:
a time of grace for all, a time of growth for the young,
a time of refreshment for the elderly, a time of renewal for families,
a time of healing for the broken, a time of joy for the sorrowing,
a time of challenge for the complacent, a time of forgiveness for the sinner,
a time of strength for the holy, a time of homecoming for all who have been away.

Religious Ed Sacrament of Penance On March 25th, the second grade classes of Religious Education received the Sacrament of Penance for the first time. They spent several weeks in class preparing for the Sacrament with their catechists. They learned to be sorry for the things they did wrong on purpose and how to tell God they were sorry. They know that Reconciliation is a Sacrament where they can renew their relationship with God. Many thanks to Fr. John, Fr. Vernon and Fr. Thomas Kreiser of St. Patrick in Yorktown for celebrating the Sacrament with our students. Students in grades three through seven received Penance during class this Lent. Our eighth-grade students will have a morning of Reconciliation on April 22.
