The sick are comforted just knowing that we pray for them. Please remember these members of our Parish Family, who are ill, in your prayers: James Cunane, Jerry

Ritzer and Harriet Ritzer. Please also remember the deceased members of our Parish Family in your prayers. At our baptismal font, new life through water and the Holy Spirit came to:

Adriel Isaiah Robbin

The people of Holy Spirit Parish welcome the newly baptized into our Christian community. Congratulations!

God is with us Our loving God is the Creator of the universe, the one who made everything from nothing. Yet, He is not a remote, uninvolved God. Nor is He an unforgiving judge waiting for us to make a misstep. Rather, God is our Father who loves us more than we could ask to be loved. He is with us and near us always. – Growing in Faith

From Fr. John

I send out a big thanks to the Knights of Columbus and the Columbiettes of Holy Spirit for doing a terrific job on the Annual Columbus Day Dinner last Saturday. There was lots of good food and we had great fun. Always good to be with you. Thanks to all who participated. Earlier in the day, I concelebrated a Mass in Italian followed by pastries and espresso al fresco. Thanks to all who assisted me.

This weekend the Pastor’s Advisory Group will meet with some of the Youth of our parish to discuss the development of a Youth Ministry for our parish. Please keep the youth of our parish in your prayers always.

The Liturgy Committee is meeting this weekend to discuss preparation for the upcoming Advent and Christmas Season and ongoing ideas for improving the celebration of our Sunday liturgies. Of course, if at any time you would like to share any ideas with the Committee or me, please feel free to contact us at the Parish Office.

I’d like to encourage all the men of the Parish to attend the annual Men’s Conference on Faith which this year is being held at St. Joseph’s Parish in Somers. All the details follow in this bulletin and you can get a reservation form at the church doors.

The Finance Council will meet on Monday, October 23rd, at 7:30pm in the Rectory Conference Room to discuss the Annual Financial Statement. We will also continue our ongoing discussion about upgrades to our buildings and grounds.

Most recently, we put the finishing touches on the foundation of the church by painting it with a matching colored stucco and new plantings on the side wall of the church building. We also removed some dead trees on the property which in turn have created some better sight lines for the Church. We do these things not only to beautify but also prevent any eventual hazards. There is more to do including replacing some of the perimeter fencing and stone work that sits along Rt. 202.

We continue to look for an expedient, inexpensive and effective way to bring more lighting to our driveway as you enter the property even though it has taken a bit more time than I expected. We are currently looking at the possibility of solar lamps to line the driveway which would save us oodles of work and money. We are getting closer to a solution.

The Statue of the Sacred Heart which greets us as we enter the property will be replaced by a new one in the next month or so. The current statue is in disrepair and cannot be refurbished.

We are also formulating a plan to re-position the Stations of the Cross which are also in disrepair. We will use the original plates and donor memorials in the plan.

We also continue to study the grounds for additional parking.

I’m grateful for your generosity to us as it allows us to entertain such upgrades and to further beautify an already aesthetically pleasing property.

I will share the Annual Financial Statement at all the Masses on the Weekend of October 27th and 28th. Thanks for all you support. God Bless… Fr. John

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

Next week, we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Each year, the entire Church is invited to support the young mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the poorest of the poor. This year, we are invited to “Chat With The Pope” to learn more about his missions. Scan this year’s World Mission Sunday poster, found on the bulletin boards as you exit the church, using Facebook Messenger for your mobile device, or learn more at ChatWithThePope.org.

Do you have a desire to share your faith? Our Religious Ed Program is in need of faithful men and women to help the children of our parish know and love Jesus and learn about our Catholic faith. Volunteers are needed for fifth grade on Wednesday at 4:30. We provide Catechist manuals and resources to help you share our faith. Please contact Elizabeth Kogler at 914-734-9243 for more information.

Theology on Tap is Back!!

Tuesday, 10/24/17 Join Catholic in Real Life at Taormina Restaurant in Peekskill for an engaging faith-based talk by Fr. Jack Soler. He's a dynamic young priest with a passion for reconnecting Catholics to their faith. There will be food and drinks available for purchase and a question and answer session will follow the talk. Look for flyers on the tables after mass. Mark your calendars and see you there! Theology on Tap is open to all adults 18 +. Please RSVP to [email protected] or Meetup.com/catholic-in-real-life

The Confirmation Candidate and Parent Meeting is Monday, October 16, at 7:30 p.m. We will be meeting in the church to review the Sacrament of Confirmation and the year’s preparation. If you have any questions, please call the Religious Education Office at 914-734-9243.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a special gathering in which children hear the Sunday readings proclaimed in words they understand. They are able to share their understanding of God’s Word. Children's Liturgy introduces them to liturgical worship so they grow in the understanding and love of God and the Mass. Please consider giving one Sunday each month to leading Children’s Liturgy. Please call the Religious Education Office for more information.

Pilgramage to Ireland and London Brochures are now available at the doors of the

Church and at the Parish Office with details for a planned Pilgrimage to Ireland and London in July

of 2018. We had a very successful pilgrimage to Italy last year. Hope you can join us for this one

Please take a moment sometime this week to join the parish Midnight Run team in the following prayer: Almighty Father, please bless this Midnight Run. When the homeless receive the food especially prepared for them, we pray that through the food they would experience the extension of your love for them. We pray, Father, that as they accept these gifts of clothing, not only would their bodies be protected, but their spirits would be cloaked in the majesty of your love, and they would feel your warmth and tenderness. Guide us, O Lord, in this mission. Help us to remember that we are channels of your kindness and generosity and bless our volunteers. Amen
