HOLY GHOST PARISH oblates of the virgin mary
One of the great ways we begin each New Year is
with our Volunteer Party, complete with food, drink,
music and the people who volunteer at Holy Ghost
Church. It is a party that we look forward to each
year—a party where we come together to celebrate
and express gratitude.
We had to cancel the party this year, but we cannot
cancel the gratitude and blessings the volunteers at
Holy Ghost Church deserve.
I thank every one of you for your help and presence
here!
In Christ, Father Chris

Hello, my name is Aaron Buches, and in August I have started giving a year of my life to serve the Church and the poor through Christ in the City, a Catholic nonprofit organization here in Denver that is dedicated to encountering poverty with the mercy of Jesus. Christ in the City forms and sends out missionaries to encounter those on the streets of Denver who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. One of the greatest poverties in our world today is that of loneliness. It is our mission to encounter the poor and befriend them, thereby counteracting that poverty of loneliness and helping them to see that they are known and loved, that they have dignity. We strive to be as Christ to them and thereby lead them to Him. Christ in the City emphasizes that we cannot give what we don’t have and for this reason, we missionaries receive Spiritual formation (Daily Mass, community prayer, personal prayer), Intellectual Formation (Courses in Catholic Theology, option to earn college credits at a special rate), Human Formation (Learning what it means to love and be loved by living in community) and Apostolic Formation (Service to the poor, as well as leadership development and nonprofit internship experience). Through this organization, young men and women, like me, are being formed to be missionaries for life. How did I come to be a missionary with Christ in the City? Having grown up in the Denver Area I was familiar with the organization and knew many of the missionaries and formators. During the summer of 2019, I did my Eagle Scout Project for the organization and as a result of that, I was invited to attend their annual celebration. It was at that celebration that, as I listened to the testimonies of the missionaries and alumni, I first felt the call to become a missionary. Paying little attention to that call after the fact, my heart was set on going to the United States Naval Academy. After being turned down by USNA I decided to take a gap year and during the summer of 2020 I started the application to be a Christ in the City missionary. After my first interview I decided to say yes to the call and give a year of my life to grow and to serve the poor. To help cover my costs for the year I need to fundraise a total of $9,100. Would you consider partnering with me in this mission? Together with your help, we will be able to bring Christ to the most vulnerable of society. 2020 has not been an easy year and I know that 2021 will not be either. I have been and will be challenged to grow in many ways through service to the poor as well as personally, and in my spiritual life. Please consider supporting me in this mission with your prayers and if you would like to support me monetarily, you can donate online at christinthecity.org/aaronb or give via check (write out to “Christ in the City” and include my name in the memo line. Mail to Christ in the City, 3401 Pecos St. Denver, CO 80211. Christ in the City is a 501c3 Tax Deductible Non-Profit). If you have any questions or would like to talk to learn more about this mission, please email me at [email protected] or text/call me at (303) 210-3219. I am excited what the rest of my missionary year will bring. If you have any special intentions that you would like me to pray for, please let me know. God bless you. In Christ, Aaron Buches [email protected] (303) 210-3219 (Cell)

Still looking for a New Year’s Resolution? Weekday Adorers Needed Because of the pandemic, we currently have many hours of Eucharistic adoration that don’t have a committed adorer. We urgently need more adorers so that we don’t have to reduce the hours of Eucharistic adoration. Could you please consider signing up for a weekly hour of Eucharistic adoration? Please contact Megan by calling the parish office or by emailing [email protected]. Megan will help you find an open hour that works with your schedule. NOTE: There will be no Eucharistic adoration on Monday, January 11, since church Christmas decorations will be taken down that day.
Beginning January 2021, our church
office will be open Monday-
Thursday, 9:00 AM—5:00 PM. The
church office will be closed Fridays.
