GOSPEL: Matthew 25:1-13 Why do we need the gift of wisdom? Why do we need to be prepared daily for Christ's coming? The parable in to-day's gospel provides some answers. According to the par-able, five foolish bridesmaids go out to meet the bridegroom without bringing any extra oil for their lamps (the bride-groom in this story represents Christ). When the bride-groom finally arrives at midnight, the foolish bridesmaids have to run off in the opposite direction to purchase more oil. By the time they get back, the door to the wedding cele-bration is locked. And the groom says to them "I do not know you." 1.) A parable is a story told to teach a lesson. What is the lesson of the story of the wise and foolish bridesmaids? 2.) Name some ways that Jesus comes into our lives. How does Jesus come at life’s end? How can we wisely be ready when he comes? 3.) According to this story, can wisdom be borrowed? Name some wise people or wisdom figures in our lives who can help us to discover sensible ways of acting. Why would an oil lamp burning be a symbol of wisdom and remind you of this gospel?

EVANGELIO: Mateo 25:1-13 ¿Por qué necesitamos el don de la sabiduría? ¿Por qué necesitamos estar preparados para la venida de Jesús? La parábola de hoy nos ofrece algunas respuestas. Cinco novias necias, cuyas lámparas no tenían suficiente aceite, iban a encontrarse con el novio (el novio en esta historia representa a Cristo). A media noche, cuando el novio llega, el aceite de las lámparas de las novias necias se había agotado y corren en dirección opuesta a comprar más. Pero al regresar, la puerta donde se celebraba la boda estaba cerrada y el novio les dijo "yo no las conozco." 1.) La parábola es una historia que nos cuenta una lección. ¿Cuál es la lección de la historia sobre las novias prudentes y las novias necias? 2.) Nombra algunas formas en que Jesús viene a nuestras vidas. ¿Cómo Jesús viene al final de la vida? ¿Cómo podemos estar sabiamente preparados para su venida? 3.) De acuerdo a la historia, ¿puede pedirse prestada la sabi-duría? Nombra algunas personas o figuras sabias en nuestras vidas quienes nos pueden ayudar a descubrir formas sensi-bles de actuar. ¿Cómo una lámpara encendida puede ser un símbolo de sabiduría? ¿Cómo te lo recuerda este evangelio?

Coming Up Soon: Centennial Celebration Gala: You are cordially invited to cele-

brate our parish’s Centennial on Saturday, November 19th.

Please help spread the word to Epiphany’s friends, parishioners and alumni! The afternoon will begin at 4:00pm with a Mass at Epiphany, which will be fol-lowed by a reception at the South San Fran-cisco Convention Center at 6:00pm—with dinner and dancing with a live band. ALL

proceeds will benefit the Parish Debt Fund. Reservations are now being taken. Please

of the century!

International Night 2011: It’s that wonderful time of year again! This

Saturday, November 5th, we will be having our 14th Annual International Night Dinner! Din-

ner tickets for adults are $25 and $12 for children under 12 years of age. Raffle tickets are $25 for a booklet of 6. The first prize will be $2,000!! Dinner and Raffle tickets will be on sale outside after Mass!

Fellowship: You are invited to the cafeteria after the 1:00pm. Mass this Sunday, November 6th for coffee, cookies & con-versation. Check it out!

Veteran’s Day: The Parish Office and School will be closed on Friday, November 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day. The Parish Office will reopen on Saturday, November 12th at 9:00am.

Tamale Making:

The Grupo Hispano is looking for volunteers to help make tamales next

Saturday, November 12th, from 8:00am and on, in the cafeteria. The tamales will be used for the celebration of Our Lady of Guada-lupe. No experience is needed. Just bring an apron!

Announcements: Centennial Plan—

End Parish Debt:

Thank You! $168,651 has now been pledged

to the Centennial Anniversary Plan to end the parish debt. This will enable Church of the Epiphany to expand ministries and services for youth, families, seniors and the needy.

Father Eugene Tungol and the Fi-nance Council thanks all those who

have pledged and asks every parish-ioner to support this important ap-

peal.

On November 19th, we will cele-brate the Centennial Anniversary of

Church of the Epiphany.

We are trying to raise as much as possible to finally end our parish

debt of $300,000.

Next week information will be avail-able for all parishioners who have not

yet pledged. ANY PLEDGE—REGARDLESS OF

THE AMOUNT—IS WELCOME AND VERY MUCH NEEDED.

Pledges can be made in one payment or over 12, 24, or 36 months.

If you wish to make a pledge today after mass, a committee volunteer is

available at a table outside. Thank you!

Flag Procession:

The Centennial Mass on November 19, at 4 o'clock in the evening will begin with a procession of the flags that represent the nationalities of our parishioners. If you would like to be a flag bearer and can at-tend the rehearsal on Thursday, November 17th at 7:00pm, please contact:

For Your Information: Thanksgiving Day Masses:

On Thursday, November 24th we will have masses at 6:30am and 9:00am for Thanksgiving Day. The Parish Office will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24th & 25th. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Immaculate Conception: Thursday, December 8th is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be at 6:30am, 8:00am, 11:00am, 5:30pm and 7:30pm (Spanish). The Grupo Hispano will also celebrate this day (La Purisima) on Sun-day, Dec. 4th at the 11:30am Mass. Fel-lowship will follow in the cafeteria.
