CREER SIN VER El “Tomás dudoso” de quien nos habla el Evangelio de hoy no creerá a no ser que vea y toque las llagas de Jesús. Y nosotros, ¿acaso no creemos sólo con los sentidos? Las pruebas científi-cas teorizan y comprueban en base a lo que se puede obser-varse en el universo. La ciencia ocupa un lugar en nuestra vida, pero no puede descubrir lo que está más allá de los sentidos. No puede definir ni medir el amor, y sin embargo, sin amor y atención las personas sufren y mueren. Hemos sido creados para vivir en comunidad y para amarnos los unos a los otros. Pensar que podemos depender de nosotros mismos y de nuestros esfuerzos es una antigua herejía. Entre las noticias más tristes de hoy encontramos a personas que mueren solas sin ayuda de nadie. Es cierto que vivir con los demás puede ser a veces tempestuoso. En las comunidades de nuestros ante-pasados los vecinos se conocían y se conocían las familias, así como los pecados y las fallas de todos. Así y todo había com-pañerismo y una mano amiga en los tiempos difíciles. Por tanto, cree en la resurrección de Jesucristo, no sólo como una cosa más en tu lista de “cosas en las que creo”, sino permite que creer en Cristo resucitado cambie tu vida. BELIEVING WITHOUT SEEING “Doubting Thomas” in today’s Gospel won’t believe unless he can see and touch Jesus’ wounds. How often do we believe only with our bodily senses? Science tests, theorizes and proves based on what is observable in the universe. It has a place in our lives, but it cannot uncover things beyond the physical senses. It cannot define or measure love, yet without love and care people suffer and die. We are meant to live with and love one another. Thinking we can rely on ourselves and our own efforts to live the good life is an old heresy. Among the saddest news stories today are those of people who die alone for want of anyone to help. It is true that living with others is a messy business. In the communities of our ancestors the neighbors knew you and your family as well as your sins and failings—and you knew theirs. Yet you had com-panionship and, in hard times, someone to help out. So, believe in the resurrection, not as a check mark against some list of beliefs, but to change how you live. Reflections ~ Reflexiones: Gospel: john 20: 19-31 John's account of that first Easter night is filled with drama. Jesus appears through locked doors and gives his disciples his peace. He gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit and communicates God's power of forgive-ness. Thomas, who misses out on this experience of Jesus, refuses to believe unless he can touch Jesus' wounds. A week later he has a chance to do just that! Thomas exclaims, "My Lord and my God!" And Jesus tells us how "blest" are we who have believed in his resurrection without having seen his risen body. 1.) Thomas' response to Jesus is a beautiful prayer of faith and praise: "My Lord and my God!" Pray this prayer the next time you receive holy communion. Remember that your Lord and God is with you. What are some other ways you can pray this prayer?

Sacrament of Reconciliation: In response to Pope Francis' call to "place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the center once more in such a way that it will enable people to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with their own hand," here are the parish confes-sion times for the Year of Mercy: Monday - 5:30-6:30 pm Saturdays - 4:00 - 5:00 pm Sundays (Spanish ONLY) after the 11:30am mass.

What will help you to believe? Today’s scripture readings tell of faith and doubt. They offer stories “recorded to help you believe,” as the passage from John’s Gospel (20:31) remarks today. There is an urgency about this. On this Second Sunday of Easter we are challenged to join the company of believers—countless men and women who wit-nessed the power of the apostles’ faith. There is no doubt that this power comes from Jesus Christ. The second reading, from the book of Revelation, reports John’s mystical vision of the Son of Man, who pro-claims, “Once I was dead, but now I live” (Revelation 1:18). The Gospel gathers everyone but Thomas to see the Risen Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit from him. Like Thomas, we who have come along later must have faith so that we can have life. Copyright © J. Today we are celebrating the Divine Mercy Sunday in conjuction with the whole world. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 4:30pm and the Chaplet will be recited at 4:50pm. The first 4 decades will be recited and the last decade will be sung with reflections before every dec-ade. On Divine Mercy Sunday, the Church offers a very special blessing to all those who celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday with particular devotion.

Last year on this Sunday, Pope Fran-cis declared this year a Jubilee Year of Mercy. Saint John Paul II named the Second Sunday of Easter “Sunday of Divine Mercy” in response to Saint Faustina Kowalska’s Divine Mercy devo-tion, which offered spiritual comfort to hearts worldwide. But Francis chal-lenges us to make that comfort we receive a gift we gladly share: “We are called to show mercy because mercy has first been shown to us.” The clear-est expression of merciful love, says Francis, is pardoning others. “At times how hard it seems to forgive!” he ac-knowledges. “And yet pardon is the instrument placed into our fragile hands to attain serenity of heart” (Misericordiae Vultus, 9). El año pasado en este domingo, el Papa Francisco anunció este año como Año Jubilar de la Misericordia. San Juan Pa-blo II nombró al Segundo Domingo de Pascua “Domingo de la Divina Misericor-dia” en respuesta a la devoción de la Divina Misericordia de santa Faustina Kowalska que ofrece consuelo espiritual a los corazones en todo el mundo. Pero el Papa Francisco nos desafía a hacer que el consuelo que recibimos como don lo compartamos con alegría “se nos llama a mostrar misericordia porque la misericordia primero se nos mostró a nosotros”. La expresión más clara del amor misericordioso, dice el Papa Fran-cisco, es perdonando a quienes nos ofende. “¡Algunas veces parece difícil perdonar!” él lo reconoce. “Sin embar-go, el perdón es el instrumento que está en nuestras manos frágiles para tener un corazón sereno”. ¿Cuál es la condición necesaria de un amor jubilo-so? “Dejar de ir al rencor, la ira, el cora-je, la violencia, la venganza.” Que el Do-mingo de la Divina Misericordia este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia nos recuerde que Jesús hizo misericordioso nuestro ideal de vida y discernimiento para nuestra fe. “Dichosos los misericordio-sos, por que ellos mostraran misericor-dia” (Mateo 5:7). —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Today’s Reading: First Reading — The apostles perform many signs and won-ders among the people. Many are added to their numbers (Acts 5:12-16). Psalm — Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting (Psalm 118) Second Reading — John, caught up in the spirit, envisions the glorified Lord, the first and the last, the one who lives (Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19).
