GOSPEL: John 6:51-58 Today's reading takes place the day after Jesus has miraculously fed five thousand people with only five loaves and two fish. Now he wants the crowds to under-stand that he has come to give them "the living bread." Earthly bread, even manna, can only keep us alive for a time. But it cannot give us eternal life. Only Jesus himself, the Bread of Life, can do that. 1.) As Catholics, our greatest prayer of thanks is the Mass. Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. When we receive Communion, we say Amen; that is, we believe that the bread and wine are now the Body and Blood of Christ. In the comings and goings of everyday life, do you ever think of eternal life? Why? Why not? Have you ever wanted a moment to last forever? Why? One of the dictionary definitions of eter-nity is "without intermission." If we think of eternity as having no beginning and no end, that is, it always was and is and will be, then we are living in eternity now. There will be no intermissions for us. We will just keep on going and going and going. . . because we are in communion with, in union with, God, the source of all life. And we renew that union and receive more eternity, more life and more heal-ing, every time we receive the Eucharist. What moments of your life need healing? What moments of your life would you like to bring into eternity? What would you like to carry into eternity with you? What can you do to have more of these "eternal moments" during the coming week?

EVANGELIO: Juan 6:51-58 El evangelio de hoy tiene lugar el día en que Jesús mila-grosamente dio de comer a cinco mil personas con sólo cinco panes y dos peces. Ahora él quiere que la multitud entienda que él le ha dado "pan de vida". El pan de la tierra, o aun el maná, sólo puede mantenernos vivo cierto tiempo. Pero no puede dar-nos vida eterna. Sólo Jesús, el pan de vida, puede. 1.) Como católicos nuestra gran oración de acción de gracias es la misa. Jesús está verdaderamente presente en la Eucaristía. Cuan-do comulgamos decimos Amén, es decir, creemos que el pan y el vino ahora son el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Cuando al ofrecerte la Hostia, un sacerdote o un ministro eucarís-tico te dice "El Cuerpo de Cristo", ¿qué significa para ti? ¿Qué quiere decir tu "amén", antes de recibir la Hostia? ¿Cómo puedes hacer de tu "amén" una afirmación de fe y convicción? En el rito oriental, la comunidad canta este himno mientras co-mulga: "Recibe el cuerpo de Cristo saborea la fuente de la inmor-talidad". El sacerdote entonces anuncia en voz alta cuando ofrece la comunión a cada persona: "sirviente" a los hombres y "criada" a las mujeres; de Dios (diciendo el nombre de la persona que reci-be) recibe el precioso Cuerpo y Sangre de nuestro Señor y Salva-dor Jesucristo para el perdón de tus pecados y para la vida eter-na. Algunas veces, en las carreras de la vida diaria, ¿has pensado en la vida eterna? ¿Por qué? ¿Has deseado alguna vez que un momento dure para siempre? ¿Por qué? Una definición de eter-nidad es "sin fin". Si pensamos en la eternidad como algo que no tiene ni principio ni final, que siempre ha sido y que siempre será, entonces estamos viviendo la eternidad ahora. No habrá interme-dio para nosotros. Seguiremos, seguiremos, seguiremos,. . . por-que estamos en comunión y unión con Dios, la fuente de toda vida. Renovamos esa unión y recibimos más eternidad, más vida y más perdón, cada vez que recibimos la Eucaristía. ¿Qué momen-tos de tu vida necesitas sanar? ¿Qué momentos de tu vida quie-res llevar a la eternidad? ¿Qué quieres llevar a la eternidad conti-go? ¿Qué puedes hacer para tener más "momentos eternos" esta semana?

Take a look around the walls of your church. Even if it’s only a year or two old, the word “Amen” has

resounded off those walls countless times at the conclusion of the Eucha-ristic Prayer and as the faithful have come forward to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Today’s feast is about those “Amens” offered in faith, offered in times of trouble or doubt, spoken in joy, spoken mindlessly, but all given to God in a multitude of ways. It is our very lives that lie behind our “Amens” and are touched by the presence of Christ, the presence we celebrate to-day. More importantly, we celebrate the love of Christ for us shown in the sacrifice on Calvary and that he con-tinues to give to us in every celebra-tion of the Eucharist. What can we do but rejoice in that great love, and then go out into the world and live that love in sacrificing for others?

Amén Mira alrededor de las paredes

de tu iglesia. No importa si sólo tiene uno o dos años de cons-

truida, la palabra “Amén” ha resonado en sus paredes un número incontable de veces al concluir la Oración Eucarística y cuando los fieles se acercan a recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. La fiesta de hoy es

sobre esos “Amenes” ofrecidos en fe, en momentos de dificultad o duda, pronuncia-

dos con alegría, o distraídamente, pero todos entregados a Dios de alguna manera.

Nuestra vida misma está detrás de esos “Amenes” que han sido afectados por la

presencia de Cristo, la presencia que cele-bramos hoy. Más importante aún, celebra-mos el amor de Cristo que nos lo dio en su entrega total en el Calvario y que continúa dándonos en su autosacrificio de cada Eu-caristía. ¿Podemos hacer otra cosa que no sea alegrarnos por ese gran amor, y luego salir al mundo a vivir ese amor en nuestro autosacrificio por otros?
