SEVENTEENTH
SUNDAY
IN
ORDINARY TIME
JULY 24, 2016
Family Perspective: Today’s gospel guarantees if we “ask” we will “receive,” perhaps not what we wanted but what our Heavenly Father knows is best for us. All the love we have for our children, God has for us and more. As our children trust us, we must trust “Our Father.”
Marriage Moments: Do you ever bargain with your beloved? "If you watch the kids, I'll be able to do this repair project." OR "If only you could give me 5 more minutes, 1 hour, 1 day to finish this, we could spend some quality time together. It's not bad to negotiate, but keep your end of the bargain. (Gn. 18: 20-32)

Thought for the week… “Communication is ultimately a human rather than a technological achievement. What is it, then, that helps us, in the digital environment, to grow in humanity and mutual understanding? We need, for example, to recover a certain sense of deliberateness and calm. This calls for time and the ability to be silent and listen.”

Last weekend, Maripat Grant
spoke at the end of each Mass
regarding the formation of a
Pra y er Te a m t o p ra y
specifically for our Pastor and
our Deacon.
This initiative was a result of an article in the June
edition of Faith Magazine, of an interview with Deacon
Ralph Poyo, which in part truly touched one of the
members of your Pastoral Council. In this interview,
Deacon Poyo pointed out that although priests and
deacons love their vocation, they are human beings
who are struggling just like the rest of us.
It was suggested at the council meeting that we form a
prayer team to specifically pray for our pastor and
deacon, for their protection and for what God knows
they need personally or pastorally.
Last weekend, several people signed up to be members
of that team. If you feel the Holy Spirit may be calling
you to be a part of this prayer team, please call the
office and your name and number will be given to a
member of the team. The prayer team will not
necessarily meet up
as a group, so if you
are inclined to take
part, don’t let a busy
schedule dissuade
you.

Questions for the week: In ancient times a man wrote a book that decried the boredom of life. The man’s name was Qoheleth. We have a sample of his work in the first reading today. You could say that St. Paul in the second reading is offering advice to Qoheleth, an antidote to the boredom he bemoans. He says: “Seek what is above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.” What do you see as the negative antidotes to boredom adopted by the young and old of today? What kind of “higher realms” of activity would you suggest for someone suffering from boredom? What would you name as some of the primary causes of boredom today?
