Prayer of Pope Francis for
Protection and Help
O Mary, You always shine on our path as a sign of
salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who
at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You…know what we need, and we are sure You will
provide, so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon Himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the Cross, to the joy of
the Resurrection. Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of those of us
who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger,
O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS
HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 5, 2020
“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the clever you have revealed them to the little ones…Come to me all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart...” Jesus’ prayer of praise, directed to the Father, is for our benefit. I want to be considered a ‘little one’ and grow in my knowledge and love of the Lord. He wishes to continue to reveal His good-ness to me. Surely most of us have learned to use new cell phones, iPads and computers. We learn to use new gadgets. May you take steps, especially dur-ing these summer months, to learn to be meek, humble of heart and live all the beatitudes - pure of heart, worker for justice, peacemaker and poor in spirit.
First Reading: Zechariah 9:9‑10 This is a prophecy of the coming of the Messiah to Jeru-salem. He will come, not as a King, but as a humble savior, riding on an ass. Second Reading: Romans 8:9, 11‑13 Contrasting “flesh and spirit,” Paul urges that all who live for material things abandon the temptations of the flesh and rise to life in the “Spirit.” Gospel: Matthew 11:25‑30 Jesus speaks lovingly and gently when he invites all those who are weary and burdened with life to seek relief and respite in him. He says, “Your souls will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light.”

The days and months ahead may be inconvenient or may turn out to be really trying. Whatever comes our way, this is a time to prac-tice our faith that we are united as one body in Christ, that we are invited to uphold each other in prayer, and that we are called to be present to
each other either through listening or through reaching out. Weekly envelopes support the Church by assisting in the payment of bills and by keeping our Church fiscally sound. During this time of having to cancel Masses because of the coronavirus, you may drop-off your collection envelopes in the mail slot of the Parish House or mail them to 32 St. James Place, Totowa, 07512. Everyone’s envelopes assist in the health and prosperi-ty of our parish. We thank you for your continued generosity and kind-ness to St. James. Stay safe and healthy!
