    THEOLOGY ROUNDTABLE

The reading for October 2020 is The Western Wind by Samantha Harvey.

The Western Wind is a riveting story of faith, guilt, and the freedom of confession. It's 1491. In the small

village of Oakham, its wealthiest and most industrious resident, Tom Newman, is swept away by the river during the early hours of Shrove Saturday. Was it

murder, suicide, or an accident? Narrated from the perspective of local priest John Reve--patient

shepherd to his wayward flock--a shadowy portrait of the community comes to light through its residents'

tortured revelations. As some of their darkest secrets are revealed, the intrigue of the unexplained death ripples through the congregation. But will Reve, a man with

secrets of his own, discover what happened to Newman? And what will happen if he can't?

Our next discussion is on Friday October 16 via Zoom. If you don’t have a camera and microphone on your computer, you can still phone in. Zoom connec-tion instructions, including the telephone number, will be emailed a couple of days before the discussion.

    THANK YOU!!!

Having been called to be a catechist by my parish, I turn to you for help in accomplishing this important

task. Give me the patience to treat each person with the

Scripture and Tradition more fully in my own life. Fill my heart with love for you and allow me to feel

that same love for those I teach. Knowing that you are beside me, I will have the

strength to face every situation and the courage to speak the truth in love.

Help me to give glory to God—Father, Son, and Spirit—in all I do and say. Amen.

Trees are simply amazing. They clean air and water, slow

SAINT ANASTASIA HAITI SUPPORT GROUP GREETINGS & UPDATE # 2

We are delighted to report that the 25 children at the Cardinal Stepinac Orphanage in Haiti that we support are doing fine and resumed attending their classes on Monday, August 3 2020. They are struggling but have taken every precaution to avoid contracting the corona virus and are very grateful that they have been spared. Much gratitude was expressed for our assistance in a recent conversation with one of the Directors of the orphanage. It was requested that we continue to show and express our generosity through our Prayers and Financial Assistance. The LAMP for Haiti Health Center in Cite Soleil, Haiti is another organization that SAHSG (Saint Anastasia Haiti Support Group) makes contributions to. The LAMP, headed by Dr. Jim Morgan, has a Health Clinic that continues to provide quality health care for the people in Haiti, especially in this pandemic. The Clinic has adapted to the initial outbreak through new procedures and safety protocols which allow doctors and nurses to continue to care for patients. In addition, the staff has done a tremendous job expanding public health education on Covid-19 with demonstrations of good hygiene practices to help avoid the spread of the virus. Community health workers go directly into the neighborhoods to talk with the community and to post informational posters to help keep residents safe. We have expanded services to meet increased humanitarian aid needs in the form of distribution of food as a prevention against malnutrition during the shutdown. Also, the distribution of anti-viral essentials such as portable hand washing stations, soap, disinfectants, cloth masks has been expanded and oversight of community water towers continues. SAHSG (Saint Anastasia Haiti Support Group) is truly thankful, grateful and appreciative for your continued donations to help support the STEPINAC ORPHANAGE, The LAMP, and SAKALA. Donations are sincerely appreciated, and checks can be made out to SAHSG (Saint Anastasia Haiti Support Group) and mailed to the church at 1095 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, N. J. 07666. Please stay safe and thank you again in advance for your continued prayers and generous financial support.

  • Dear Friends, As Summer officially ends and Fall begins God gives us so much beauty on earth. The colors, sounds, and smells of the seasons all remind us of how much we love living in a part of the country that has four distinct seasons. I’m not sure we celebrate that in the heat of the summer or the severe cold of winter but for now let's enjoy it as God gives it to us. BAPTISMS: Since the quarantine has been lifted, we have seen a large increase of requests to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism. You have read of discontent for our very low numbers of weddings and funerals here at St. A's even before Covid. But our already fairly large number of baptism requests is growing even more these days. Until further notice and in keeping with the present norms of social distancing we are typically baptizing babies just one family at a time. The former schedule of monthly baptisms no longer exists in order to accommodate the many baptism requests we are receiving. Likewise, we have decided to baptize babies at any time of the day or week as long as the schedule of the church, priest/deacon and family are in sync. All baptism preparation classes will be remote until further notice as well, however we prefer to have numerous families for the virtual baptism preparation at the same time. Once again there is not much of a schedule for this as of yet, but we are trying to gather as many families together for the baptism preparation sessions as possible. I’m very grateful to Fr. Danny and our deacons Kevin and Larry for being flexible with their schedules and to Yvette for scheduling the baptisms around the clock, managing the families, priests/deacons, church schedule and the Godparents. I'd like for you to help with this as well. Please call the rectory office and speak with Yvette at least two months in advance of your requested date so that she can arrange all the schedules together for the baptism preparation and the celebration of the sacrament. ANNUAL APPEAL: The Archdiocesan Annual Appeal, like our very own parish and all charities and nonprofits has taken a huge loss this year because of Covid. On the weekend of October 3/4 there will be an extra basket in front of the altar just for the Annual Appeal to give all parishioners a chance to participate if they haven't already. Happy Fall!!! Peace, blessings and fraternal regards, Rev. Joseph A. D'Amico

Paz, bendiciones y saludos fraternos, Rev. Joseph A. D'Amico
