Church of Saint Rita 281 Bradley Avenue - Staten Island, NY 10314 SUNDAY, JULY 5, 2015 14TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “Pilgrimage of Mercy” St. Rita’s Parish has been given a wonderful opportunity to receive the entire body of St. Maria Goretti , a heroic young girl of the 20th Century, who chose to die rather than give in to the sexual demands of her neighbor. The church honors her as a martyr for the faith. We are scheduled to receive this precious relic on Wednesday, September 30th, for one day only, during the “Pilgrimage of Mercy”, when the body of St. Maria Goretti will be brought to the United States. St. Rita’s will be the only par- ish in the Archdiocese of New York to host the relic besides St. Patrick Cathedral. Fr. Carlos Martins CC, who conducts a ministry of holy relics entitled, “Treasures of the Church” is organizing this “Pilgrimage of Mercy”. As you can imagine, it is a very costly undertaking. Fr. Martins is asking each host parish for a donation of $5000 to fund this pilgrimage. If you are able to make a donation to help defray the cost, it would be very much appreciated. Please make your check payable to “Church of St. Rita” with “St. Maria Goretti” in the memo. Kindly bring or mail your contribution to the parish office, attention Mary Grace Liss, as soon as possible. Please plan to spend some time with St. Maria Goretti on Wednesday, Sep- tember 30th at St. Rita’s Parish. A complete schedule for the day will be presented in the near future as well as a very informative website.
