Our Mission:The Mission of every Catholic Parish was given it by Jesus Christ when he said to the eleven “All power in heaven and earth has beengiven to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the HolySpirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 26-30) Our mission is to spread the Gospel!What would you have done if you had been in Hawaii? What a terrifying experience for those poor people! I do not think that we can appreciate the terror and fright they must have gone through. Listening to a few who were interviewed after wards, they sought safety in manholes, bathtubs, basements, etc. What I did miss in their responses was any mention of preparing to meet God in this moment of possible impending death. So, I conducted my own poll of innocent churchgoers, asking them what they would have done if they were in Hawaii. Again, no mention of meeting God. This caused me to wonder if our lives are so centered on this world, that the supernatural is a distant unreality. Which brings us to Jesusmandate in today s readings:
The kingdom of God is at hand, Repent and believe in the Gospel. Maybe the Churches in Hawaii did begin to fill up during those terrible 37 minutes, and it has not been reported. Perhaps many hearts and minds did turn to God; we will never know. Let us remember that there are many people in the war-torn regions of the world who live with the threat of bombs every day. Let us pray for them and for peace in the world. Agnes Scheuermann

The Knights of Columbus Council 9267 will be meet-ing, Monday, January 22nd. The meeting will take
place at 8PM, in the Lower Church Hall. Please try to attend.
The Knights of Columbus Council 9267 will be sponsoring a FreeThrow Basketball Competition on Saturday, January 27th 2018.The competition will be held at Lindenhurst Middle School Gym(located at 350 South Wellwood Avenue entrance in back ofschool). The Free Throw competition will begin at 12:30 pm (setup for free throw is at 12:00 Noon) , free throw competition willend at 2:30pm. The competition is open to boys and girls betweenthe ages of 9 to 14 (age as of December 31st 2017). Please bringwith you a copy of the birth certificate for the child who wishes toparticipate in the competition.
