What is the smallest number of eggs the Farmer could have had in the first place? An interesting little riddle that and I am sure you will be able to work it out. If not don’t worry the answer is on page 2 For some people the Bible is a riddle something they find hard to fathom. But like all riddles once explained it becomes obvious. Lent is fast approaching in fact it starts on the first of March, why not take the opportunity on offer this lent to perhaps get some answers to the riddle of the Bible. There are many good bible individual bible study booklets but if you would like to look at a bit of the bible over four sessions during Lent why not come along to our Lent course. No fore knowledge is required or expected. We shall be looking, in St Mark’s gospel, at the events around Jesus last week before His crucifixion. Message from DEFRA
The NFU has produced an infographic to raise awareness and encourage any-
one who keeps poultry to comply with Defra’s Prevention Zone (housing or-
der) which is currently in place.
The consequences of not complying with Defra’s prevention zone could be
severe, for both individual keepers and the British poultry industry as a
whole, and so it is vital that we disseminate this message to as many poultry
keepers as possible.

The answer to the Farmer’s eggs was that he had seven eggs in his basket. The first customer took half the eggs 3.5 plus a half and egg which makes four Leaving the Farmer with three eggs. The second customer took Half what was left 1.5 eggs plus a half which makes two Leaving the Farmer with one egg. The third customer took half the eggs that is a half plus a half making one. Thus no eggs were broken and the Farmer sold all his eggs.

Don’t Miss Out on Your Flu Jab As winter bites there is still time to get your flu protection. Health chiefs in Suffolk are urging everyone who qualifies for the free vaccination (those with underlying health conditions, pregnant women and those over 65) to take up the free jab that will have been offered to them via their doctor. Stopping the spread of flu can help prevent more serious conditions developing such as pneumonia. Those not eligible for a free vaccination can arrange for a paid-for vaccination through participating pharmacies. The most common flu symptoms are fever, chills, aches and pains and extreme tiredness, but it can cause more severe effects. Because it is caused by a virus, not bacteria, antibiotics won’t treat it, so the best way to avoid this unpleasant illness and dangerous side effects is by having the vaccination. Your Parish Council look after the village website (see address above), but we are always on the look-out for exciting and interesting content to make the web-site vibrant and relevant to all our village residents. Congratulations – 2016 Jubilee Cup Winner Charlie Abbott Just before Christmas Charlie Abbott was presented with the Jubilee Cup in recogni-tion of his long service to the village, having been the church organist for 60 Charlie has also helped with various maintenance tasks in and around the church and helped with fundraising on many occasions. Battles Over Celebrations On 11th November 2018 there are plans to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the end of hostilities in the Great War by lighting beacons across the country. The Parish Council are considering the possibility of a beacon for Worlingworth, but would like to hear from anyone who may be interested in helping host this com-memoration by Monday 27th February. The matter will be an agenda item at the March meeting. Parish Councillor Vacancy Due to a resignation we are seeking a volunteer to contribute to the local community in the role of Parish Councillor, please contact the Parish Clerk for more informa-tion.

Bedfield Town Estate Annual Update This is a brief update on the work of the Bedfield Town Estate for 2016. The Trust is a Registered Charity number 207196 and is required to work within the term of its Constitution. The Trust was formed in 1883 - primarily to contribute funds for the maintenance and repair of the fabric of St Nicholas Church. The Trusts remit also includes Education, Health and assisting the ‘poor’ of the Parish of Bedfield The Trust has ‘assets’ which were bequeathed in 1883. The assets are The Playing Field, The Tennis Court and the site where the Pavilion stands (we don’t own the Pavil-ion) which is leased to the Parish Council, the Allotments – leased to individuals, the field behind the allotments – leased to a local Thatcher, 29 acres of Farmland – leased to a local farming family. The Trust also has cash assets from the sale of a parcel of land some years ago. This cash asset is invested to generate an income. The Trust cannot use these assets – we can only use the income generated from them. There is some interesting wording in the original Constitution! For example…. The Trust can make.. ‘Subscriptions or Donations in aid of the funds of any Dispensary, Infirmary, or Hospi-tal whether general or special’ ‘..for the benefit of the deserving or necessitous persons resident in the Parish of Bed-field… to supply clothes, linen, bedding, fuel, tools, medical or other aid in sickness, food or other articles in kind to an amount not exceeding 5 shillings in any one year’ Or ‘Payments not exceeding 5 shillings each, in order to encourage the continuance of their attendance at School…. (The Trust) having received from the Principal Teacher a certificate in writing of their good conduct, regularity in attendance, and proficiency during that period, as shall be satisfactory to the Trustees, and shall have passed the last examination of their School’ All obviously pre NHS, The Benefits system and Compulsory Education! So the Trust has to try to interpret the original constitution in modern terms – Giving funding to assist the general community of Bedfield, especially including young people, older people, health and transport in a rural area. During 2016 the Trust distributed its income in the following way:- £2200 To St Nicholas Church for the upkeep of the fabric of the church and insurance £1000 towards the purchase and installation of the 2 defibrillators sited in the village of Bedfield. £270 to the Bedfield and Monk Soham over 60’s – who use the money for regular out-ings £600 to CEVCP School – who will be using the money to fund a theatre visit £50 For Book Tokens to year 6 leavers going on to High School and year 11 students going on to 6th form or college who reside in Bedfield. £500 to the High Suffolk Community Bus – available to all residents to enable trans-portation. Several one off small donations were made during the year to Bedfield residents who have been bereaved or had a serious illness or operation. It was decided this year to discontinue Christmas donations to individuals ‘in need’ as it is difficult to make these judgements without being very intrusive. However if you, or you know someone, with a real need which would cause them finan-cial difficulty please do approach the Trust with full details. Any application will be seriously considered within the terms of our Constitution and the funding we have available. Cont on page 13

AED – Defibrillator Project
Bedfield Parish Council apologises to everyone who attended the planned
defibrillator awareness event on Friday 8th December 2016. As you will be
aware it was not possible to proceed with the event due to unforeseen
circumstances.
We are pleased to announce that the event will now take place on
TUESDAY 21st FEBRUARY 2017, commencing 1900 in the
Bedfield Sports Pavilion

We said goodbye to Alma Boulton, who moved to Debenham at the beginning of January to be near family.
We welcome Richard Joy to Bedfield. He moved into Alma’s bungalow in January. We wish them both well as they settle into their new homes.
Angela Budd has had a spell in Ipswich hospital and recuperated at Mills Meadow for three weeks before coming back to her home in Bedfield. Friends and family visited Angela to keep her spirits up. Welcome home Angela.

We start 2017 with our first meeting of the season on Feb-ruary 17th at 7.30pm at the Sports Pavilion, Bedfield.
Charlotte Blyth, who is a willow weaver, will be showing us how to make a plant support in willow. She will take us step by step through the process during the evening.

A SERVICE OF THANKSGIVING FOR THE LIFE OF NOEL ROY CREASY
(31st January 1938 - 27th December 2016)
St.Peter’s Church was packed to celebrate the life of Noel Creasy, a respected farmer who had lived and worked in Monk Soham for most of his life.
Son of Roy and Violet with 2 younger sisters, Rita and Ann, Noel grew up at Green Farm and went to school in Monk Soham and then Worlingworth. He was never more content than when he was helping on the farm and so it was a happy day for him when he left to join his father and was the
proud driver of a grey Fergie tractor.
When he met Gill (Abbott) on a Boxing Day she was 16.This was the beginning of a wonderful partnership and in 1966 they were married in Monk Soham Church .
A date was chosen in between haymaking and harvesting and their honeymoon was spent in Devon and Cornwall. This was cut short as they missed Suffolk and from then on they did not venture far afield.
Apart from enjoying greyhound and stock car racing, Noel’s love of country pur-suits and his family were his whole life. He was a truly contented man, visiting his parents every day at Green farm and attending to the many tasks that arose daily.
In 1975 Pearl was born and in 1982 Silvia, known as Ruby, arrived to join her elder sister.
Both daughters have inherited their parent’s passion for na-ture and farming and above all hard work and dedication.
Until 4 years ago when Noel very sadly was diagnosed with such a debilitating and cruel illness, he and Gill worked in harmony with their girls on their land which had grown sig-nificantly in acreage and which included a large pig herd.
Noel will be a man greatly missed by the community and his family. Gill will be comforted in the knowledge that she was married to a man who loved his work and was utterly contented with his way of life. He has passed on this spirit to his daughters and their husbands Ed and Chris and his legacy will live on.
Gill Creasy and her family wish to thank Joy Cook and helpers for preparing the church so well for Noel's Thanksgiving Service. Everywhere was spick and span and the flowers were beautiful.

New Year’s Walk
19 people and 9 dogs set off on a fine morning for a footpath
walk which was ably led by Graham Giles.
We had some superb views as we walked along Waddle Goose
Lane and then back towards Monk Soham where hot soup and
rolls were served in the Granary at Downhams Farm. Thanks to Gay for
organiising
Everyone agreed that it was a great way to start the year so hopefully
this will be repeated in the future.

HIGH SUFFOLK COMMUNITY BUS Except at Bank Holidays, every week the bus runs to Framlingham ( Tues-days ), to Stowmarket ( Thursdays ), and to Diss ( Fridays ). In addition, there are services to Ipswich ( first Saturday and third Wednes-day of the month ), to Bury St. Edmunds ( first Wednesday and third Satur-day of the month ), and to Norwich ( second Saturday and fourth Wednes-day of the month ). During February, the dates of these services will be: Wednesday February 1st. Bury St.Edmunds Saturday February 4th. Ipswich Saturday February 11th. Norwich Wednesday February 15th Ipswich Saturday February 18th Bury St.Edmunds Wednesday February 22nd Norwich Also,in May,June and September,there will be services to Lowestoft. Timetables are available on the bus, or from Gerry Garwood ( 685415 ) or from John Ridgwell ( 627181 ). We are always seeking potential new drivers.
