Problem StatementMany people

have difficulties in finding activities to do in new, or even old places.

Solution OverviewCreate a decision

engine for phones that enables people to easily discover new places that may interest them.

PersonasJoan

Regular: 22 year old frequent city goer.

Jackson Freshmeat: 18 year old new to the city.

Mr. Smith: 29 year old travels to different cities.

ScenariosFind an Activity

Joan would find new activities

Mr. Smith would find locations and activities that he knew he liked

Jackson would find activities based on interests and experience new things

Set Up a ProfileAs it turns out,

this wasn’t very different for the different personas.

Major ChangesAs a result of our feedback, we decided to change

the main page layout to have the preferences on the bottomSymmetry

Personalized Activities

Take-Away LessonsWork early, work oftenCarefully consider horizontal vs. vertical

development. We were caught up in implementing many things that were not HFID related, while the interesting HFID concepts fell to the wayside.

Users have difficulty portraying what they really want, and even if we know what we are talking about, make sure the users do too.

Be careful about choosing your prototyping tool.
