HOW CHROMECAST WORKS

WORKING

Chromecast has 2 components: DIAL (Discovery and launch protocol)

REST Service

DIAL Protocol was developed by netflix and youtube which is owned by

Google. This protocol is being integrated into devices and apps by variousmanufactures and content provider.

DIAL protocol allows the DIAL client to locate the DIAL server devicerunning on the same WIFI network. In the case of Chromecast, your phone, tablet or laptop act as a client and the Chromecast itself is the server.

REST protocol then receives the HTTP request from the clientdevice(mobile, laptop, tablet,pc) to launch the applications on the serverdevice(chromecast).

Page 9: Chromecast

To set up chromecast we also have to install

special app called chromecast app or a chrome

extension depending upon on what device we

are using as a media launcher. Once it’s set

up,we can launch any application to cast on the

bigger screen of the TV.
