Stalking RipsSchool Project 3 - System Stalker Lab - Rips

The Stalking Rips project aims to look into the behavioral patterns of different phenomena. The chosen phenomena was the ripping of paper. Though a systematic routine, 8.5x11 paper is trimmed with a 1cm boarder, then torn into 4 quadrants. The paper is then offset back to 8.5x11 and photocopied, leaving behind a black mark where the rip was. This process is repeated and observations were made. Information from this data set was then incorporated into a Rhino Python script to computationally 3D model this abstract idea.

Initial diagrammatic observations were made from the original data set. These analyses helped us to understand the system, but more importantly, the numeric data collected was helpful in set-ting up the parameters of elements for our code.

COLLECTED SPACIAL DATA RECOGNITION

Cut sections are determined at a specified distance to gather comparative information of X and Y directions

The resulting section cuts are aligned frame by frame, and have a branching characteristic similar to that of a tree. From one generation(frame) to the next, black chunks either branch off creating “children” chunks, or end their lineage, leaving behind a “leaf”

By incorporating the generational growth concept, we are able to construct a recursively growing code. When the code is run, the resulting recursive structure produces something entirely unique from the last. The code can be tweaked and adjusted within in order to produce different results with a different degree of angle control and variation.

MiniSh houSe

The Extra Small project was a design challenge to create a house with a square footage under

180sqm, with roughly the same dimensions as a small shipping container. The Minish House is

a house designed specifically for colder climates on mountainous terrains, using environmental

strategies to remain functional.

High Rise LivingSchool Project 4 - Toronto Condo/Hotel

This project focuses on understanding high rise living in the Toronto downtown area. The project looks into how a combined luxury hotel and con-dominium affects the surrounding city fabric, and explores street level interactions.

At GEC Architecture Calgary, I worked on numerous projects using a variety of skills. During my time there, I was given a wide variety of tasks which allowed me to develop abilities in computer programs, as well as design techniques. The firm is locally based, therefore most of the projects were in Clagary, and I was able to make site visits.

Architecture|49(Formerly PBK Architects) Co-op Term 1

During the first term employed at Architecture|49, I worked largely on one project. This project was St.Catharines Spectator Facility. Situated in the downtown core of St. Catharines Ontario, this spectators facility aims to revitalize the downtown area. The building is a 5000 seat multi-purpose spectator facility, home of the OHL Niagara Ice Dogs. During my second term with the firm, I worked on various transit buildings for Metrolynx at various stages of the projects. Additionally, working alongside GENIVAR engineering consultant firm I was able to gain exposure to other disciplines.
