1. Do your Homework- Investigate the company on the web.- Uncover key metrics + news stories.

- Know the details of the job description.

2. Practice a mock interview- Research potential interview questions.- Think of behavioural-type questions.

- Practice makes perfect!

3. Dress for success- Appearances count.

- Looking good means feeling good.- Look professional, tidy, and neat.

4. Be on time- Give yourself plenty of time to get there.- Anticipate any delays: weather, traffic, etc.

- Being late could be a deciding factor.

5. Stay calm- Being a little nervous is okay.

- Stay focused.- Rely on your skills, abilities + experience.

6. Give a good first impression- Be pleasant, warm + don’t forget to smile.

- A confident handshake + voice is a good start.- Don’t be afraid to show your personable side.

7. Stay positive- Focus on positives not negatives.

- Don’t bash previous employers/colleagues.- View every interview as a learning experience.

8. Show energy and enthusiasm- Don’t be Mr. or Miss Gloomy.- Don’t underestimate passion.

- This is not a place for inappropriate comments.

9. Be sure to listen- This is a skill oftentimes neglected.

- Don’t interrupt.- Ask for clarification if needed.

10. Answer all the questions- Be honest, accurate, concise + give examples.

- Don’t go off-topic or be too vague.- It’s okay to pause and think before answering.

11. Always say thank-you- Don’t forget say thank-you at the end.

- Follow-up with an email a couple days later.- Remember the importance of politeness.

12. Have your paperwork ready- References.

- Credential verifications.- Criminal reference checks.
