PREPARATIONSand the surface. Wipe away dust with a damp pa-per towel. Seal the entire surface with multipurpose sealer. Let dry & sand lightly again if needed.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS "Baby's 1st Christmas" OrnamentBasecoat with Winter Blue. Dry. Basecoat the bottom portion of the ornament with Deep Midnight Blue. Trace on the basic outlines.

BEARBasecoat with Milk Chocolate. Basecoat the nose Lamp Black and line the eye as well. Basecoat the scarf Bleached Sand.

Dry rub highlights on the bear using Honey Brown, in the middle of each of the following sections: the ear, arms, face, body, legs and tail.

Shade with Raw Umber around the ear, across the back of the head, around the scarf and on the front of the face next to the snow and arm. Shade around his nose. Shade to separate the ear from the arm and to create the bend in the arm. Shade the arm in front across the bottom and up the back. Shade to create the bend and slightly up the arm. Shade around the scarf & leg. Shade to separate the tail from his bum and to divide the feet.

Highlight with Honey Brown on the ear, the tops of each hand and next to lined eye to create the eyelid. Highlight the front leg f rom the toes up to the scarf. Highlight the bum and tail.

Dry rub a rosy cheek with Country Red. Highlight the nose with Snow White.

Highlight the scarf with Snow White. Line the scarf alternating between Hauser Light Green and Country Red. Shade the scarf Bleached Sand with a touch of Milk Chocolate. Line the tassels with Hauser Light Green. Dry. Line again with Country Red. Dot the knots where the tassels attach to the scarf with Hauser Light Green.

TREEBasecoat the trunk and branches with Raw Umber. Line the needles with Plantation Pine. Dot the berries

MOONBasecoat with Moon Yellow. Shade the back side of moon with Antique Gold. Highlight the top side with Light Buttermilk.

STARSBasecoat Snow White.

SNOWStipple with Snow White. Allow some to fl uff up on the bear. Shade across the bottom of the snow with Deep Midnight Blue.

“Baby’s 1st Christmas” is line with Snow White.

FINISHING TOUCHES• Erase all graphite lines.• Shade around the outside of the ornament with

Deep Midnight Blue.• Shade around the bottom portion of the ornament

with Lamp Black.• Apply 1 -2 coats of Lemon Drop Glamour Dust Paint

to the stars.• Line the needles on the tree with Lemon Drop

Glamour Dust Paint.• Apply a coat of Ice Crystal Glamour Dust Paint to

the snow.• Dot a few extra stars in the sky with Ice Crystal

Glamour Dust Paint.• To protect your piece, apply 2-3 coats of your

favourite varnish. I love all of decoart’s varnishes!

BEARSBasecoat Milk Chocolate. Their eyes, noses and mouths are Lamp Black. Dot they eyes with Snow White to give a highlight. Highlight the noses with Snow White. Dry rub rosy cheeks with Country Red. Dry rub highlights on the bears all over their bodies, including ears, legs & feet.

Shade to divide each bear from the other with Raw Umber. Shade the ears, arounds the scarves, to divide the arms from the bodies and on the legs to separate them from the body and feet. Shade across the bottom of each foot.

I purposely left out Papa Bear’s feet. It would have been confusing and cluttered to have them in there. If it bothers you feel free to add some in.

Highlight the bears with Honey Brown. Highlight the ears, the tops of the feet and across the bottom of their bellies on all the bears. Highlight Papa bear’s arm on the outside and around his paw. Highlight Mama Bear’s arm to create the bend and on the outside of her other arm. Highlight brother and sister bear’s arms on the underside.

SCARVES & MITTENSPapa’s: Basecoat Bleached Sand. Line alternating between Hauser Light Green and Country Red. Shade his scarf with Hauser Light Green. Shade to create the crease in the piece that hangs down the front. Shade across the top and around mama bear. Shade to divide the hanging pieces from the piece going across.

Mama’s: Basecoat with Hauser Light Green. Line alter-nating with Antique Gold and Snow White. Highlight with Citron Green. Shade with Hauser Medium Green. Shade to create the fold in the scarf, on the outer edg-

Brother’s: Basecoat with Hauser Light Green. Highlight with Citron Green. Shade with Hauser Medium Green to create the fold, around his present and across the top of the scarf. Basecoat his mittens with Bleached Sand. Dry rub a highlight in the centre of the hand on the cuff with Snow White. Shade with Hauser Medium Green to create the cuff s, across the front of each mitten and to make the thumbs.

Sister’s: Basecoat her scarf and mittens with Bleached Sand. Highlight both with Snow White. Dot her scarf with Country Red. Shade with Country Red. Across the top, to create the folds and to divide the front hanging part from the piece going across. Shade her mittens to create the cuff s, the fold of her hands and across the bottom.

PRESENTBasecoat Country Red. Basecoat the bow and ribbon with Antique Gold. Shade the bow and ribbon with Honey brown. Shade the present with Soft Black across the bottom, up the side and round the mittens.

CANDY CANEBasecoat Snow White. Line with Country Red. Shade with Country Red on either side of the mittens and on the right side on the top of the candy cane and on the left side and bottom on the bottom portion of the candy cane.

STARSLine the string with Snow White. Basecoat the stars Antique Gold.

SNOWStipple the snow with Snow White.

FINISHING TOUCHES• Merry Christmas is lined with Snow White.• Shade around the outside of the ornament with

Deep Midnight Blue.• Shade the bottom portion of the ornament with

Lamp Black.• Add various dots of snow with Snow White.• Apply a coat of Lemon Drop Glamour Dust Paint to

the bow & ribbon and to the stars.• Apply a coat of Ice Crystal Glamour Dust Paint to

the candy cane and to the snow.• Apply a three coats of your favourite varnish if

desired.
