EXALTED RULER MESSAGE

Happy holidays everyone. This time of year is very busy

for the Elks and I would like to thank everyone for all the help throughout the holiday season.

Our membership has grown this year and that is a very good thing.

All of you that have sponsored people in and made them new members of our lodge this last year. Please stay involved with those folks, help them with information so that they will want to attend our different events and stay a vital part of our Lodge.

I am very proud to be an Elk and of all the good work we do in and for our community, and it shows that you are as well.

And remember; treat others as you would like to be treated.

Fraternally Yours,

Lance Wright

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MESSAGE

Happy Holidays. Projects for the Lodge are put

on hold for this month with the exception of the mandatory ones. With all the events that happen in December it would be too inconvenient to add to the confusion. It always amazes me this time of year that another year is about to pass and we are making plans for another. 2018 seemed short.

I hope this year was a very good one for you and the next will be even better. While making plans to celebrate the holiday season with family and friends, remember people less fortunate. As Elks, we have many opportunities to be charitable and share the blessings we have received.

If you are traveling for the Holidays, please do so safely.

Ike Thygerson, , Chair

NEWS FROM THE HOUSE COMMITTEE

The House Committee would like to wish all of our Lodge members, Ladies of Elks, Board of Directors, our ER, all our officers, Terry, Betty, Suzanne and her Bar staff, and anyone else we may have missed, a Safe and wonderful Holiday season!

May all your Christmas stockings be stuffed and your belly’s full of food and cheer! Enjoy all the activities your lodge is providing this month. Take a look at all the angel trees we have and find it in your hearts to help those less fortunate during this holiday season. After all, this is part of what being an Elk is all about.

Quote of the Month: “It’s not what’s under the tree that matters; it’s who’s gathered

around it!” ☺

Leo Lang, House Committee Chairman

Elks Charity Benefit Shoot This event was held on November 10, 2018. I would like to personally thank my co-chairman's Sally Brackett and Harold Curry, my sidekick Jayne Wright, along with the Chefs Randy Benson and Wayne Sittre for all their help and SUPER food. A HUGE shout out to Beth Magruder and Rebecca Yager for the incredible baskets they personally made for this event. The folks at Purgatory Clay Sports venue along with Jim Mendenhall who was our PR man. Great pictures from Bob Matteson. Nice bunch of Elks pulling together to make this event a success.

ENF News Hi All. Holy Cow, where did 2018 go? I haven’t even put Easter

decorations away yet and its Christmas time already. We have had a very good ENF year, thanks to our generous and

loyal Elk Lodge members. Here are some stats for you. As of the latest Elks National Foundation report, our Lodge is at $9.561 per capita with $10,221.00 donated with another $3,000.00 on its way

to Chicago. WhooHoo! Sad to say, Provo Lodge is ahead of us with $10,930 per capita. Hopefully the $3000.00 will kick us ahead of them. That 1st place plaque would look really good in our Lodge! To date we have been approved for $8,000 in grants from ENF with another grant still in the works.

As far as our Hawaiian Fund Raiser figures go: we cleared right at $3,652.00 with the Purple Pigs being $1,200.00 of it. Amazing amount of change turned in. It is so neat the way members adopted them, filled them and then returned them. A huge thanks to Linda VanHoek for herding those fat little purple porkers around.

Finally, I wish you a Blessed and Happy Holiday Season. Please know that your donations have helped to make a Happier Christmas for many others.

Eye Fair News On Saturday, October 20th, the Dixie Elks Lodge #1743 hosted an Eye Fair for Washington County students in grades K-9. Over 275 people came to the Lodge to play games, have their faces painted, learn about the Elks Drug Awareness Program, watch movies, make crafts, get prizes and enjoy refreshments. Doctors from Paradise Canyon Eye Care and Dixie Eye Care provided vision screening and 54 children from our community were given vouchers for eye glasses. A big thank you to the 25+ Elk and LOE volunteers who helped, the scouts from Elks Troop #0509, and the Latinos in Action club from Snow Canyon Middle School who translated for Spanish speaking families. A special thanks to Dr. Joseph Fife (Paradise Canyon Eye Care) and Dr. Brent Crofts (Dixie Eye Care) for donating

their time and money to help kids see and do better in school. The Eye Fair was again a huge success and made a big impact on our community. It's an

honor to be part of our Elks organization that does so much good for so many.

Jam Session The November 10th Jam Session included

TWO FIDDLE PLAYERS in harmony! Guitars, banjo, fiddles, drums, harmonicas & 3 & 4-part harmonies resonated throughout the Lodge!

Pictured left to right are (back row) Cathy & Danny Stam, Fred Lohmann, Grant & Heidi Gunn, Dave Schjeldahl, Kelly Pentico, Candy DeLand Moreno & Bob Dant (front row) Terry Hayes, Jean Pyper & Hal Millett.

Dance Lessons at the Lodge! Monday 5:30 pm sharp

Come early, get your drinks and socialize before class, and be ready to dance at 5:30

Maxine Thurston thanked everyone who participated in the Chili Cook-off. It was a lot of good chili from eight excellent cooks. The winner of Best Chili was Donna McBean, and The Peoples’ Choice was Terry Jones and Vincent Chavez for the best Decorated Table.

The Christmas Bazaar started the Wednesday after Thanksgiving and will run Wednesday. & Friday evenings until Christmas. This is a good opportunity for shopping and Goodies. DeDe Sittre has asked if you bring goodies for the bazaar on Wednesday. She also asked for fudge, bread, or brownies as they keep well.

“It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” with our annual Ladies of the Elks Christmas party on December 11 at 6:30. We will be serving lasagna for dinner, there will be an Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, and a White Elephant gift exchange.

We would like everyone to bring a package of diapers of any size. These will be given to “Root for Kids,” a shelter for women at risk with children. Hope all can attend, should be lots of fun. "May you all have a season filled with gentle joys and may your gifts be full of love, Friendship and Good Health." Jan Frisbey Reporter 813-690-1516 [email protected]

The Dixie Ladies of Elks

From the VETERANS CORNER Wow, where did October and November go? Merry Christmas to one and all! November has been busy for me. I had a few surgeries; two on my back and neck, and both

muscles in both eyes, so far everything is looking good. I can still see. I am praying that things get straightened out very soon.

Today I am getting ready to go to a memorial of a friend. We are losing way too many people. Please remember to Thank a Veteran when you see one it will make their day.

Veterans Lunch was an amazing turn out, so many happy faces and even some tears. Military tree went up on November 25, so get your stars and have the gifts back by Dec 18 so we

can deliver on December 20. Hope everyone is still enjoying the Football Sunday Lunch, unfortunately we had to raise the price, hope everyone understands.

The Veterans Christmas Party is December 13, this is free to all veterans, their families, and care givers. Remember, Santa will be there too. This is for all Veterans Young and old. We appreciate all you have done for us and our Freedom.

Please remember to work together and help one another. May GOD Bless each and every one of you out there in Elkdom. The Veterans Committee wishes everyone A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

OPEN HOURS Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 12-9 Wednesday 12-11 Friday 12-10

Saturday 12-9 Sunday 11-6

Sunday Morning and all was fine. Fifty-four bowlers eager to have fun

and help support our youth showed to bowl in November and to knock down all the colored (money) pins.

It was a great day for Brendan Thomas as he had three ‘300’ games. One of the games was with 12 natural strikes and only 1 no-tap. That is so nice. It was also nice because his mom, dad, and girlfriend were there bowling with him.

Bowling can be a great family affair. High money winners were… who

else but Brendan and Sheri Wood! It was also a good day for Bob, Trent, Ron, and Tor who all bowled 300 games. Who knows, we may have the start of a pro-bowlers no tap club.

The Strike Pot was won by Margie O and Kyle. Fred Chappell who has been mentioned many times was lucky and won the Lucky 13. He got a total of 6 pins on the first ball, and 7 on the next one. LUCKY 13 for Fred.

Now that you know what a great time you can have, come join us on December 9th. Be sure to be at Sunset Bowl at least by one o'clock.

Thank you all for helping us make this work.
