THORP Primary School’s festive fair will be a real Christmas cracker this year, with former pupil and rugby league star Paul Sculthorpe dropping in to add a touch of celebrity glitz to proceedings. Paul (31) has come a long way since his days at the Westerdale Drive School, having enjoyed a successful spell at St Helens. And he’s set to inspire another generation of Thorp students on Saturday when he auctions off some of his old playing shirts to raise money for school funds. “There’s real buzz of excitement around the school at the moment and we’re really impressed that Paul has agreed to take time out of his busy schedule to come and see us all,” year one teacher Deborah Hacking said. “He’s a fantastic role model for the students and he’s told us he’s looking forward to returning to his old stomping ground. “Hopefully his presence will attract many more than just pupils and parents.” As well as meeting Paul, visitors can enjoy hot food and drink, fairtrade refreshments, chocolate and wine tombolas and plant, book and music stalls. Visitors who are interested in green issues will also be itching for a look on the innovative eco stall, which features a wealth of goods made entirely from recycled materials. The fair runs this Saturday from 10am to noon.
