Words of Welcome

Proclamation

P Many ages after God created the heavens and the earth,

when man and woman were formed in God’s own image;

long after the great flood, when God set the rainbow in the clouds

as a sign of the covenant,

twenty-one centuries from the time of Abraham and Sarah;

eleven centuries from the time of Ruth and the Judges,

a thousand years from the anointing of David as king;

in the sixty-fifth week as Daniel’s prophecy takes note;

in the one hundred and ninety-fourth Olympiad,

the seven hundred and fifty-second year

from the founding of the city of Rome;

the forty-second year of the reign of Octavian Augustus;

in the sixth age of the world,

Confession and Forgiveness

All may make the sign of the cross, the sign

marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins.

P The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.

C The glory of the Lord has shone upon us in the face of Jesus Christ.

Silence is kept for personal reflection.

P In his name let us make confession of our sins.

For his sake let us seek forgiveness.

C Heavenly Father, we come in humility. In our thinking,

or speaking and doing, we have sinned against you.

We ask for your forgiveness and mercy.

P The glory of the Lord has shone upon us in the face of Jesus Christ.

C It is in the name of Jesus that we come before you, heavenly Father,

pleading the merits of his holy life, his innocent sufferings.

P In the Word who has come to dwell with us

God has given us grace upon grace:

forgiveness that is stronger than our sins,

love that can heal every broken heart.

Hear this word of God’s pardon and peace:

In the name of (+) Jesus our Savior, you are free from all your sins.

Rise, shine, for your light has come.

C Glory to God in the highest! And peace to God’s people on earth.

Sharing of the Peace

P The peace of the Lord be with you always.

C And also with you.

You may greet one another with a sign of Christ’s peace,

and may say, Peace be with you,” or similar words.

PROCESSIONAL HYMN “Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful”

Oh, come all ye faithful, Joyful and triumphant!

Oh, come ye, oh, come ye to Bethlehem;

Come and behold him, Born the king of angels:

Oh come, let us adore him,

Oh come, let us adore him,

Oh come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

Highest, most holy, Light of Light eternal,

Born of a virgin, a mortal he comes;

Son of the Father now in flesh appearing!

Oh, come, let us adore him,

Oh, come, let us adore him,

Oh, come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

Sing, choirs of angels, Sing in exultation,

Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!

Glory to God, In the highest:

Oh, come, let us adore him,

Oh, come, let us adore him,

Oh, come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

GREETING

P The grace and peace of Jesus Christ,

the Word made flesh, be with you all.

C And also with you.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

P Let us pray. Father of Light,

C shine upon us as we hear your Word.

Fill us with the same joy and awe as those who first met Jesus.

You may receive the Communion Wine from the Red Chalice (Common Cup) as it is offered to you or by taking a communion glass from the tray. Grape juice is available in the center of the communion tray.

When giving the host and wine, the ministers say: The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you. and each person may respond: Amen. COMMUNION MUSIC Linda Hoch, organ After all have communed, please Stand.

The ushers will distribute light from the processional candles. The person taking flame from a candle shall tilt his/her candle toward the lighted candle. Once lighted, hold your candle upright so that the next person may take light from you.
