The original story…..

Ebenzer Scrooge, the miser, is visited by the ghost of his deceased partner, Joseph Marley on the eve of Christmas. He gets a warning from his friend’s ghost that he would be visited by three ghosts shortly in order to make him realize how his unkindness is about to bring his doom.

As promised, Scrooge indeed is visited by the three ghosts. The first ghost is the ghost of the past who makes Scrooge see his past sins..The second ghost is the ghost of the ‘Christmas’ present who makes Scrooge understand how his unkindness has distanced him from his family members, especially his nephew whose family did not like Scrooge much for the same unkindness. The third ghost who is the ghost of the future shows him how his miserly acts on his clerk, Bob Cratchit, cost the life of the latter’s crippled son, Tiny Tim. Bob was a poor man who is in need of money for his son’s expensive treatment. Bob’s ardent pleas to lend him money, falls into Scrooge’s deaf ears and poor Tim has to die. These ghastly visions makes Scrooge realize his mistakes. In the end Scrooge seeks a second chance from God to make amends in the lives of the people he has spoilt. Thereafter he emerges a completely changed person.
