CHRISTMASCHRISTMAS BAZAAR WAS BAZAAR WAS

A HUGE SUCCESS… A HUGE SUCCESS…

THANK YOU!THANK YOU!

Trinity Lutheran’s first Christmas Bazaar

was held on Saturday, November 26, 2016,

from 8:00 am to 2:30pm. The bazaar was a

huge success due to the tireless efforts of

Mickey Barkuloo and her committee, Karen

Torbit, Carmela Gorub, Karen O’Brien,

Debbie Pilarski, Cass Jensen, Brenda Fischer

and Patty DiPietro. Santa’s Breakfast had

two seatings for children and their families.

Yummy food, a gift, a craft and Santa along

with Mrs.Claus and Santa’s elves made it a

magical experience for all. Karen

Torbit coordinated this delightful part of the bazaar and all the many

volunteers who came to help Karen

made this a fabulous time!

There were 54 vendors that graced

our Trinity campus. The Narthex,

former Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall and

the Gym were a buzz with lots of visitors

buying lots of “goodies.” We sold live

greens and wreathes and Christmas

flowers and arrangements.

Best Friends Fur Ever

brought some friendly dogs and one is in the

process of being adopted

by a visitor to our bazaar!

As we begin a New Year, many of us will make New

Year’s resolutions with the hope of making positive changes in our lives. How about this for a resolution: Let’s take responsibility for our own

shortcomings and not give in to the tendency of blaming others.

A story I read recently highlights this thought:

Two golfers stepped up to the first tee on the St. Andrews course in New York. The older golfer was a kindly man who played a thoughtful, deliberate game. The younger golfer was full of pride and impatience. On the first hole he sliced, lost his ball in the tall grass, hit another one, & had a score of 8 instead of 4 or 5. And the next hole was even worse. Frustrated, he began hollering at the caddy: "Keep your eyes peeled. I'm not here to do your job for you!" Thereafter, every bad shot was the caddy's fault! At the end of the first 9 holes, the younger golfer was so upset that he discharged the caddy & carried his own bag. "That caddy made me nervous. He doesn't like me, and I sure don't like him! I say good riddance to him!"

After several more holes had been played without a word, the older golfer broke the silence: "Several years ago a little kid from Yonkers came up here and became a caddy. He was a sweet-natured boy; quick-witted, willing, and had a nose for golf. Everybody liked him. His name was William; he had a clubfoot. But that didn't affect his caddying. It was a pleasure to go out with him." "A famous doctor, a member of the club, became interested in William and took him south that winter & operated on his foot. When William returned, he went back to caddying. The doctor, however, had to give up golf shortly after that because of his health. And it wasn't long after that when he died. "Months later I was playing a round with William carrying my bag. It was spring, and the fields & hedges were alive with blossoms. William stopped several times to gather flowers until he had quite a bouquet. 'Who's the girl, William?' I asked. 'I haven't any girl, sir,' he said. 'They're for my friend, the doctor--twice a week I take flowers to his grave.'

"Now that's a caddie worth having," the younger golfer said. "Whatever happened to him?" The older man paused and then replied, "For nine holes he was carrying your bag."

I was always taught that when you point your finger at someone else, you have three coming back at you. When the world – when our world – needs to improve, let’s hold the

mirror up to ourselves first. That is a worthy New Year’s resolution.

Join Women’s Ministry

and Meet Some New Friends

CALLING ALL YOUNG LADIES

(ages 13 and up)

Women’s Ministry will be

sponsoring its first ever

Young Ladies Mini-Retreat.

The theme of the retreat will

be: Looking For Lovely by

Annie F. Downs. This study

is written for young ladies,

so you will be able to relate

to the subject content,

participate in the

discussions, discover

something new and have

some fun.

Suzanne Raymond will be

leading this wonderful event. The mini-retreat will be

held on Saturday, February 4, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. -

2:00 p.m. This event is free and open to all Trinity

young ladies and their friends.

Registration is required so we can order enough

materials, snacks and lunch. For more information or

to register, please email Jan McMillen at

[email protected] or 410-679-4000, ext. 129.

You may also register online at: trinityjoppa.org.

9 LADIES ADOPTED

This year we started our Anti-

Human Trafficking partnership with

The Samaritan Women. Currently

they have nine ladies in their

restorative program. Trinity was

asked if we could sponsor one or

two ladies for Christmas and we

agreed. Carmela Gorub brought it

up at the God Squad's small group

meeting in November. Within 20 minutes of the

discussion, all nine ladies were adopted for

Christmas. We were overwhelmed by the quick

response. Needless to say, The Samaritan Women

were surprised by this rapid response to give all 9 of their ladies a Christmas this year. For some, this was

their first Christmas to receive gifts. Thank you to all

who generously opened their hearts to these women.

SPRING RETREAT

APRIL 21 - 23, 2017

God called, and He wants his job back!!!

Families…Work…Schedules…

Stress…Life!

Are you ready to LET THEM GO?

Ladies, there is still time to reserve your space at our

Annual Spring Retreat. This year we are doing “Let It

Go” by Karen Ehman. This promises to be an awesome

study. The cost has been lowered to $150 for 3 days, 2

nights and 5 meals plus a great time of fellowship with other great women. A $50 deposit will hold your spot.

To register, please email Liz Carper at

[email protected] and/or Jan McMillen at

[email protected].

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

WEEKEND

On Sunday, January 21, we will

celebrate Women’s Ministry and the

women of our church. We will have

tables setup in the Narthex with story boards

showcasing the activities over the last year. Women will

be serving as deacons and ushers during the worship

service. We will have a guest speaker, Mary Lou

Roberts, deliver the message on that day. The women

will also host the coffee social.

We invite everyone to attend worship service that day and see all the wonderful things the Women’s Ministry

does for our church and our community. We will have

sign up sheets for those interested in helping with some

of the events.

CHRISTMAS PARTY FUN!

GIVE CLEAN WATER TO A FAMILY IN GUATEMALA;

Just $15 for One Villager or $60 for One Family

Almost 20 people will be traveling to Guatemala in April to kick off our multi-year project of Village Transformation in the village of El Jute. We are excited to have multiple families participating in this

first trip with a range of ages. This initial kickoff trip will accomplish two things: allow us to be

present for the dedication of a Trinity-funded new well that will provide clean water for the villagers and

allow us to make relationships with the people we will be serving for the next three years. We will deliver

Blessings Bags to each of the 250 families in the village and hold VBS for the children. The goal of this long-

term project is to not only transform the villagers’ lives physically but also to present the Gospel to the hundreds

of villagers who don’t yet know of Jesus Christ. There are only 15 villagers (out of 1,400) that attend the

Christian church in El Jute. Please contact Mike Hinman at 410-458-4523 or [email protected] with

questions about this project.

What is needed in January for this project?

Prayers for the village of El Jute that the projects we have planned will bless the villagers and will

provide for a good solid foundation for their future.

Donations toward the new well for villagers. We have just $5,300 left to raise to provide a well.

Would you donate $15 for water for one person? Or $60 for one family? Any donations placed in the

Offering Plate should be clearly marked with “Guatemala Village Support.” You can also give checks to

Mike or Lori Hinman. All checks should be made payable to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Donations of supplies for Blessing Bags for village families. Examples are pencils/sharpeners,

small super balls, travel size bottles of lotion or shampoo, bars of soap, hair ties, toothbrushes, etc. See

the display in the Narthex to choose what you want to donate.

SERVING OPPORTUNITIES

We are blessed! We would like to share our

gratitude towards YOU, our Trinity’s members and

friends, for your service. Thank you for making all

who come to worship feel comfortable and welcomed.

A friendly smile or a welcoming word can be all it

takes to encourage people to explore a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

SERVING OPPORTUNITY

There are many people hurting in our world. There

are many issues and

situations weighing on the

hearts and minds of our

church members – our

Christian brothers and

sisters. How can we, as

concerned Christian brothers and sisters, help them?

By extending Christ’s love to them.

No prior experience is needed.

We will show you how to use the talents and gifts

God has given you to make a positive difference in

the life of someone with challenges and/or hurts.

We are offering an 8-week course, starting in late

January, that will help you develop your the skills

and decide if becoming a Stephen Minister is right

for you.

Once training is complete, we meet for an hour

once a month as a group to offer guidance and

support for one another.

We need additional people to join our active

Stephen Ministry staff.

Please contact us with your questions!

MEN’S RETREAT

There is one spot left for the

retreat. If you are interested,

please contact Bill Schafer as

soon as possible. At this point,

your registration would require the full amount for

the retreat. Don't forget, if you are already a

participant and paid for the retreat in full, great. If you still have a balance, please try to keep to the schedule so we can keep up with our payments to the retreat center. By now, everyone who is participating should be at $140, final payment is due on January

8, it is important that everyone is paid up by that

date. We set up the payment schedules to coincide

with our payments to the retreat center. That's why

it's important to keep up-to-date. Thank you.

FUNDRAISER

Our next fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday,

January 25, at Bertucci’s Restaurant in Bel Air. Eat

WANTED

Men who would love to help plan

future events, breakfasts, outings,

the month immediately following the 11:00 a.m.

worship. We currently have a few men who are

actively participating but welcome a few more men

who could help us improve our ministry. Our next

meeting will be on January 8 due to January 1

being the first Sunday and most people will be busy

with their New Year’s Day events. Please stop by in

the Fellowship Hall. We typically try to hold the

meeting to no more than an hour.

A special note of thanks to all

who served at our five Christmas
